Feeling hopeless and depressed

  1. I graduated May 2017 in California and passed NCLEX in July. I thought I was going to get a job by the end of the year, but unfortunately have had no luck. I was a little confident since I received multiple interviews shortly after graduating, but none of those worked out, and am now not receiving any.

I've been feeling extremely hopeless and have been applying to practically anything I can find. I feel like this season's new grad programs are closing and I'm losing my chance with new grad programs. Other nursing positions that dont require experience seem limited so I feel like I'm out of options.

Its very discouraging to see classmates and friends around me getting jobs; I feel like we're all on the same playing field.

I dont want it to reach the one year mark of post grad and still be unemployed. I feel like a disgrace and disappointment. Any words of encouragement or advice?

    Hey Chocolatebuns,
I'm not sure where you're located but don't lose hope. Have you looked at smaller hospitals, rather than the big most popular ones?
For example, Paradise Valley Hospital in San Diego offers almost all of their RN positions for new grads but it is not a new grad program. I do know that they will train you, but do not know the extensiveness of education part like other new grad programs or if they even do classroom type learning.
Perhaps it is not your "dream job" but it can catapult you into your career of choice.

Do you check job postings with every hospital you are interested in every day? It might sound like overkill, but some like Kaiser, only have their posting up for a bit. Be the first to apply.

Perhaps your resume and cover letter need a revamp? Do you currently work or volunteer? Perhaps highlight those skills for the time between graduation and looking for a job. Good luck
