This weekend was the start of my first clinical experience ever, and can I just say how incredibly awesome it was?? It rocked! I had the best nurse in the world that I was working under, and she never minded a question or a request for an explanation. She pushed me in all the right places to get me to step a bit out of my comfort zone and try the different things I was qualified to do. I was completely nervous and full of anxiety because I have no patient care in my past to fall back on. I've never been a CNA or a tech.
I made beds, gave a bed bath, wiped butt plenty of times, measured out take in the form of water diarrhea, did Accu checks and gave several insulin injections, reconstituted medications, gave PO meds, ambulated, took planty of vitals, and did assessments and every bit of it was exciting . . . even the butt wiping! It just felt so right to me. I had been questioning my decision to persue nursing as a career, but after these two days of clinicals, I know I made the right choice.
Getting up at 4am to make it to clinical on time and working until 1pm wore me out. I came home both days and napped, but it was so worth it. One big thing I learned this weekend? I need better shoes!!!! lol

I love it! I just got accepted to an evening/weekend program that starts in January. I don't know how soon they will get us in clinicals, but I can't wait.
Wow, you were able to do a lot, too.
What kind of shoes do you have now? I don't know what my school recommends yet. I am anxious to start buying my stuff.
Have fun!

I tell you...in school, I sought out EVERY opportunity I could. There are things you see once in 2 years and that's it....Overall, you sound like you did a whole heck of a lot!
Personally, I swore by a good pair of tennis shoes....cause only working about 7 hours in clinical didn't hurt em too bad. But when I started working as a CNA, I needed better ones. My parents bought me standing comfort shoes...and the first night I wore them, I punched out and felt like I could still run to my car!
A good pair of shoes is VITALLY important! Find whatever works for you!
