hi! i went to school out in lubbock and i miss it all the time. you are gonna have a great time. I cant speak for the hospital because i was only a student at TECH. the town is lovely, everyone is so nice and the west texas hospitality really shines through. the town is run by texas tech. when school is on the town seems busy and full but once classes are over its calms down. the weather is ever changing. it can snow in the morning and then be about 80 degrees in the afternoon. its a relatively safe town with its sketchy parts. Rent is reasonable. the farther from the university campus the cheaper.
Alright, so I lived in Lubbcock from 2008-2013 to go to Tech.
I never worked at UMC, but I've been treated there. The staff seemed great.
In terms of family life, I have a 15 month old now and I would be perfectly okay with raising her there. There is definitely a college vibe in the area around UMC, obviously, and tons of college kids around. There are pockets of bad and good thorughout, I'd say try to get into Tech Terrace Neighborhood if you're buying a home. Rent ranges a lot. I missed the rent there. My husband (fiancee at the time) and I rented 3 bedroom houses with a roomate for 900. (In San Antonio, we rented a one bedroom with a study for 1050.)
Traffic isn't terrible there. There isnt any drainage, so the highways and roads turn into rivers when it rains. Town is super spirited about Tech.
You get snow on occasion. Football games are fun to go to. Triple J is a great restaurant, and go see "D" at One Guy Pizza on University. Your tummy will thank you! :)

Hi,
I have been a nurse for a little over a year. I was born and raised in a US territory. I have been a nurse for a little over a year on a Medical unit. I interviewed and got an opportunity to work at UMC in Lubbock, TX (nuero or Med/Surg ICU). I am a little nervous but the team has ensured me that they are a teaching hospital and I am willing to learn.
Can anyone let me know if they have any experience working at UMC and about the area? Apt/rental average cost? Daycare/school average cost?, commute time to/from work? etc., I am traveling with my partner and my two toddlers, ages 3 and 1.
Thanks in advance.
