First Semester Nursing Student

Published

In high school and even freshman year of college I never thought I had a problem studying; until nursing school. I study for hours and hours and I still can't help but feel that I am underprepared. Does anybody have any good tips on studying for nursing exams? I would really appreciate the help, thank you!

Welcome to AN! Under the student tab at the top of the webpage, you will find a list of forums dedicated to students, including one just for study tips. There is a huge difference between high school and college education in that one is typically taught using pedagogy while the other is taught using adult learning theory. Two different approaches, and many struggle during the transition from one style to the other.

One of my recommendations is to take a learning styles inventory to learn how you best learn and how you would best study. My personal favorite is the VARK questionnaire. Quantity of studying doesn't equal quality of studying, so make sure you go for the quality to help retain information.
