First Semester of Nursing School

Published

I'm starting an ADN program in the southeastern region of NC. I was wondering what the first semester of nursing school is like. I'll be taking 3 nursing classes: Fundamental, Assessment, and Pharmacology. What should I expect? How soon will I start clinicals? Any ideas on how I should stay organized and study tips for these classes?

I know I have to have an 80 average, so I want to be on my A game. This school is known for being tough, a lot of people told me not to go here because the instructors make you do unnecessary things. But, they also graduate nurses who are prepared to hit the floor and work once they graduated compared to other schools in the area. I'm an A/B student and I've always had to study to get my grades, so studying and time management is not a problem for me, but I know nursing school is way different. Any advice would help.

Expect some chaos just getting used to the sheer volume of reading and work. First semester was hard mainly for that reason. Clinicals started for us after about the first week. Good luck in your program! I went to school in Virginia and just graduated May 8.
