I don't know which category to put this so I put it on Nursing Career Advice. I am a LTC CNA in night shift at Adventist Health System. I just graduated from high school and got my CNA license in May. This is my first job experience. Anyways, MANY THINGS happen at this job. In the beginning when it was my 3rd week of working here, the Human Resource who takes care of PayRoll, did not pay me correctly. I called the HR about it and she said she would look over it and SHE NEVER DID. I called her again about it and she said the same exact thing. My pay stub was incorrect. So, I emailed the DON about it because she interviewed me and told me how much I am suppose to be pay. I told her about my pay stub sent her pictures of it with my calculations and she did not say a thing about it. I mean I know this happens a lot everywhere and I believe they use teenagers and people who never had a job before advantage. I am now 19. After that, I've been getting SO MANY complaints from the AM shift about the way I take care of residents when no residents ever complain about me and my night shift nurse who I work with never ever complain about me. I do my job, I chart everything and report it to the nurse. But my night nurse did mention that the 2 AM CNAs always find something to complain about. I was almost close to getting reported but my resident told the AM CNA to not to because I take good care of my residents, I cannot thank her enough about that. Their complaints are about little things like I forgot to throw away 2 water cups out of 20 residents I do all by myself because night shift are short in staff. Everything I do is completely wrong to them. Then today, a Nurse who I do not even know come up to me YELLING at me about the laundry bags how they are untie, but only at me. I stayed completely professional. She was yelling about the states are coming and we always get notify when they are coming so we can be prepared and the DON will let
us know, she will come in at 5 AM to check everything. So, I never heard anything about them coming and they mostly come during the day not nights. Last Friday, the DON came to talk about how we are being more strict of infection control because of the states (pretty much the people who can close down the place.) she only mention about throwing soiled linens without a bag and overflowing trash bags that we cannot do anything about. She never ever mention anything else but that. I've been working almost two months and now that is the problem. The Nurse reported me because of the untying laundry bags and she did say she's going to report all the CNAs who was working but she never did. She only reported me. I was busy taking care of my resident while this is happening. Then, the AM CNAs come in and was complaining about me to her which made it worse. They were talking about me in front of residents very loud and clear that my resident whose door is completely close and the AC is on which makes noises, HEARD EVERYTHING that they were saying. That she was concern and ask me what is wrong and why did she talk about me. They were disturbing residents. I honestly don't know what to do, I am scared that I might get fired or license suspended, this is my first job and I'm currently looking for another one because I'm moving but I really need this job because I'm also paying for college and bills. I do not know what to do at all. Also, are you allow to talk or complain about another employee to employees in front of patients/residents or in a public area??

You need to learn to cope with the stress and strain of working as a CNA in a LTC facility. Likely to be some version of the same in a new job so stick with this one until you move. Every shift you survive is another day of experience to put on your resume. Enlist the aid of your charge nurse to stick up for you since you are doing what you are supposed to be doing.
Yes, I know this will happen anywhere and I will still stay working here until I find another job. I've been dealing with it since I started working there and have not quit or anything like that. I just do my job and the nurse was there, you can hear them easily. I just don't understand why the AM shift have to complain about me and now the Nurse when none of my night shift staff complain at all of what I do. I just hope I don't get fired or suspended because of what I got reported for and only I got reported. I try to avoid the AM as much as I can, I'm just doing my night job and that's all that matters.
I worked night shift. Believe me, day shift always complains about night shift. Put your mental earplugs in your ears when this griping starts within earshot.

This seems to be what the CNA world is like, lots of fighting, putting another down. In nursing, you will have to learn to stick up for yourself and not worry about small things like a small complaint. I have a friend who was a CNA in a LTC facility and HATED it, decided to give up on becoming a nurse. Then he got a job in an ICU as a CNA, and he liked it a lot better. I think a LTC is a very hard place to work. I could not do it.
