Basically my unit has given me 2 weeks to improve or they will fire me,what would you guys suggest i do?...Is it better to resign now than to get fired?

Resign or ask for a transfer. Try somewhere else with new people in a new situation - you might thrive in a different environment. I went through a similar experience and I regret NOT resigning when I could because I feel that sometimes when they tell you that they already plan on firing you unless you do something extraordinary.

Two months doesn't seem long enough to adapt to an ICU. There's a lot to learn, especially for a relatively new nurse.

Were you given a critical care class?

Honestly, it sounds like they want you gone. Transfer out back to med surge or tele.

You can't work on critical thinking in 2 weeks.

Good luck.

Guys what units would you say are low stress compared to ICU...in descending order because i might want to work on something low stress for a while.

I suggest trying another unit. Sharpen your skills and critical thinking. Try returning to the ICU later if that's still where you want to be in the long term. Don't resign because that may be what they want.
