Fired for insubordination and wrong violation information

Here is the jest of what happened. I was suspended, but wasn't notified. I went to work which is 36 miles 1 way. I talked to 1 of the nurses and he told me to stay. I was told by a supervisor that census was low on the floor. I was never told to go home. I stayed and worked that night and was later told that I was suspended and to come in and talk to the assistant DON in a couple of days.

When I went in to talk to the assistant DON she told me I was fired for insubordination and for leaving a resident dirty.

So here lies the problem. I am fired for insubordination and wrong violation information. The violation occurred on the 9th and my last night was on the 8th. It didn't dawn on me until later and here it is Monday and I was fired on Friday.

I have to go get my paycheck and I am going to talk to someone about this. Does anyone have any advice?

The question really is, are the accusations true? The date can be just a mix up and they will just fix it if it's wrong. If you were, infact. suspended with cause, the date won't matter.

The fact that you were allowed to work a shift or that the date may have been written incorrectly is not going to change anything if they have decided to fire you for cause. For the record I once worked at a facility that fired more people in the time I worked there than in than every other facility combined over my entire career, I personally saw them suspend a nurse for several days (with pay) told her to come in and work her next shift - which we were short staffed for and then they had her go to a "meeting" at the end of the shift where she was fired and escorted off the premises by security.

I think I may have misunderstood your original post. Are you concerned that as you didn't work on the date that the event is stated to have occurred and given that your shift the day prior was on the opposite end of the unit that they have mistakenly taken action against the wrong

employee? If this is the case I would call your manager and make an appointment to discuss the incident as soon as possible. Take a copy of your schedule showing that you weren't working on the day in question. If possible also have a copy of the shift assignment showing which side you were assigned to for your most recent shifts. The only other thing I would suggest is stay as calm, professional and polite as possible. Don't give them any excuse to have anything else against you.
