Finishing FNP August 14, Tips for AANP Exam?

Hello everyone I'm a 25 year old male, finishing up the FNP program on August 14 of this year and I am pretty much finished with my clinical hours and capstone project. Now I gotta study for boards. I'm going to take AANP and do you have any advice for me regarding preparation? I'm seriously a studious person who is able to stay home 6-8 hours a day studying since I don't work at all because of USAF HPSP scholarship :yeah:. I think i studied that much per day for 6 weeks for my RN license. Even though my friends at this age wants to party all the time, on weekends, go to the beach, etc, I discipline myself to stay home and study when I feel I need to.

Right now I have Fitzgerald 2010 CDs and work booklet that comes with it, the 3rd edition NP Cert Exam book by Fitzgerald (the purple book with the red dot on bottom left corner). Am I missing something here? I'm not going to take a review course.

I was wondering how was the FNP Program?

It was intense. Lots of self learning and I would have liked it more if it involved more problem-based learning groups...

Where was your program NurseW74?

I took the AANP on Aug 20th and passed. I used Hollier and Leik but did listening to Fitgerald CD's and brought the same book you have. Hollier and Leik helped me to pass my exam. Fitzgerald information (to me) will best be used while in practice. Hollier review is on CD's as well. Stick with one or two sources. Study content and practice questions each day. I had a lot of derm question so make sure you know all the (most common) disease in and out. Good luck to you!

I liked Barkley's Course....

WOW, NURSEW74! I KNOW this is OFF TOPIC, BUT I totally COMMEND you on completing a FNP PROGRAM at the age of 25! I graduated with a BSN at 22, worked for 2 years as a RN, and am now going to FNP school this fall! To be finished at 25 is a GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT! CONGRATS and best of luck with your boards and FNP career! YOU are definitely a inspiration and motivation!

What FNP school did you attend? Did you go full time (2 years)?

Thanks! Glad I can be of some inspiration to at least one person lol. Yes I went to university of Hawaii at Manoa full time for my FNP degree. You'll do great in the FNP program as long as you put max effort in all you do and learn to compromise in ANY situation that's not in your favor. Now I gotta pack up for the USAF and get ready to go to commissioned officers training in October. :)

Hello, I took my exam last December 2013. First I used APEA test bank to get familiar with the questions then I read Fitzgerald and answered her questions and then did the review with Maria Leik. They where all helpful in their own way however Leik's Review and Book was the most like the actual exam. In fact there are several questions right out her book. She was a great teacher I took her class online 3 days before going to sit for the exam. Passed first time around! Good Luck

Hey everyone,

just took took my boards on Aug 16,2014 and passed! I took the AANP exam and I made a promise to myself to post tips for those who needed help. I constantly came here and read a lot of stuff from people who failed and I was honestly freaking out. I had never been more nervous in my life about anything. First off I want to say that the test was not easy but it was not hard. Luck favors the well prepared and I passed because I was prepared. There were a lot of questions that I felt were tricky but a lot were also familiar. I used Barkley and Fitzgerald CDs. I think Barkley was better at narrowing things down and although FItz was also good, her audio review and book were too in depth. The questions on exam were very general. Fitz gets into details of all the common pathogens and a lot of pharm. barkley was a better review. My test was 100% clinical honestly, no research or legal issues on my test. I had a lot of derm and ENT. Know Roseola, Rubella, Rubeola, and scarlet fever like the back of your hand. I had 2 questions on Herpes simplex 1. I had a question on what the pancreas secrets to counteract hypoglycemia. The answer is glucagon. I had questions on stds, anemias, and heart murmurs. I would recommend buying the 75 question test that the AANP offers for $50. I had one of the exact questions on my actual exam. I scored an 83% on that test which was one of my highest scores from all my practice tests. I was scoring in the 70s the entire month before the test. I wouldn't recommend taking test if you're scoring anything lower than 70 to actually feel comfortable on exam. Hope this helps. Happy to answer more questions if anyone has! Good luck to all of you!
