Finding a New Grad Position

Published

Hi!
I am a recent grad MSN-RN in SoCal. I am applying to new grad positions and residency programs but it is so competitive. I have only gotten one interview and nothing else. How can I make myself standout in my application, cover letter and resume? I don't have very many connections so it is hard for me to get any interviews right now.

Specializes in Psychiatry, Community, Nurse Manager, hospice.

You need to make the connections. Join every professional organization you can, and show up at the conferences. Meet people. Contact your clinical instructors, professors and anyone who precepted you and let them know that you're looking for a job and do they have any leads?

Based upon the date of your post, another consideration might be the timing of your applications.  In my area, new grad residencies typically start January/February, June/July, and September/October, with applications opening ~4 months prior.  Nurse recruitment or human resources at the facilities you're interested in might be able to provide start dates for upcoming new grad residencies.

Congratulations on graduation, and best wishes with the job search.
