Finding a job in the Bay Area

Published

Hi,

I graduated in May and when I received my license all the new grad programs were closed. I would like to work in Labor and Delivery which I know is hard to get into as a new grad. I have been told by many nurses and former professors as well as hospital employees that I should get certified in as much as I can that is relevant. I am currently certified in BLS, ACLS, Fetal heart monitoring and NRP. Is there anything else that I should try and get? Also I have been applying for positions that can also help with the "experience" part of L and D such as Med surge, ICU, Emergency etc. and nothing.........

I cant relocate but Im willing to travel a little ways maybe and hour and a half? I just dont know where else I can get a job that will give me relevant experience. I am 37, and would like to get into the specialty sooner rather than spending 5 years slowly making the trek. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

hey i'm about the same age and same area. tbh you're lucky to get any job as a new grad in the bay area. once you have a job in acute care, you are MUCH more likely to get a job in L&D. just apply to anything that's acute care, i think if you're tunnel visioned on L&D, you're actually going to end up taking a lot longer to get to L&D.
