Finding a job in adelaide

Hi,

I am a UK trained nurse currently working in New Zealand. I am moving to Australia in January, I have registration with AHPRA but I am finding it hard to find jobs.

I find it hard to believe that such a big place in adelaide has no nursing jobs?

Can anyone help?

It's getting impossible to get employment with SA health. We have a hiring freeze and the bean counters are skinning every department down to the bone. Nursing graudates are struggling to get a graduate nurse position, the GNP nurses can't get permanent positions when their one year contract is up. It's a mess.

Try the private sector, aged care or RDNS. Good luck

I did some agency work in Adelaide for a while. I am in Perth, WA now & work for a really great agency here, but they are not in Adelaide yet, but are planning to expand. Contact all the agencies re work, private agencies that aren't government controlled can get you work in private hospitals, ie: Calvary Nth Adelaide, Calvary Wakefield St, Ramsay Health Hospitals, Central Districts in Elizabeth, Stirling Private Hospital, St Andrews Private Hosp on South Tce. You will get work through agencies, but if there's a freeze on, you may get a lot of shifts cancelled. Apply everywhere, ie: RDNS, home health agencies. I'm sure you will get something. There will be no freeze on with private hospitals, and they don't close their theatres for as long, so you will always have work.

Hope this helps :)

Unless you really really are desperate I wouldn't recommend working in private theatres here in Adelaide. You rarely have breaks and the lists never seem to end. While the public system here isn't perfect the working conditions are a lot better.

I'm struggling to get a job in SA and I've worked here for two years in the health system. I've had job offers in QLD,

I'm currently reaching the end of my grad program and I am slowly getting more annoyed with the lack of response.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll find something

Hi AusRN

Have u had any luck getting a permanent job? It is very difficult in SA. And employers are VERY slack at not getting back to you, I too had that same problem in SA. Have u tried private hospitals etc?

I'm also thinking of heading to QLD next year for a change, as the company I work for has an office up there. Hopefully I can just transfer up there!

Cheers.

I got a permanent part time position, 7 shifts a fortnight but they love to call me in because I'm quite flexible in the off netball season. I'm going to get some more experience and hopefully do an intensive care program, hoping in Adelaide, but not liking my chances. I've got family in QLD so thats where I will go if I don't get a program down in South Australia.

Education oppurtunities seem pretty low down here though.
