I am in my last semester of my rn to bsn(online) program. I have a clinical with Community Health and need to find a site. The nursing school has some sites but that means commuting once a wk over 1hr and a half to get there. I was told I can find my own clinical site-the advisor thought this this can be difficult to do on my own. For the nurses that did Community health-how do I go about getting a clinical site in my area? Should I call, email or visit? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

I got my BSN in the classroom, but we had to find our own Comm. Health Clinical sites as well, which was a pain in the rear. Here are some ideas of where to look:
**Your local health Dept. (may be your best bet)
**Your local American Heart Assn or American Diabetes Assn office (see if you can follow a nurse educator)
**The local Catholic Church (follow a parish nurse)
**The local STD office- they do a lot of pt ed
**The local immigrant community- they usually have some sort of community center, where health ed is provided
Good luck to you. I had a horrible time when I had to go through that search, but I got lucky, and followed a friend of mine, who is a NP in a doc-in-the-box. Thank goodness my professor knew her too, and OK'd it. Summer is an especially hard time to look, because that leaves out all the school-based programs.
