Finanical Aid Advise

I am new to this site. I have been reading threads for several months and finally decided to sign up. I am currently taking my pre-req classes for RN. I have not applied for the program yet. I am running out of options to pay for school. I know that I can get another student loan but I am trying to keep those down to a minimum. I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas about scholarships that I could apply for. I am in Georgia but I am not eligible at this time to receive the HOPE Scholarship. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similiar problem with paying for school. I ended up just getting those loans because I figured "the best investment is the one you make in yourself." Have you asked a financial aid officer at the school you want to go to? It's their job to get you money, but anything you can do to help out is great. The local libraries usually have scholarship books with thousands of listings of potential scholarships. I don't know anyone whose received one, but it's worth a try. All I have to say is that although loans seem horrible, don't let a lack of funds prevent you from becoming a nurse. I'd rather get a loan to pay for school than a loan for a car or house any day, because nobody can take your education away from you. Good luck with your search!

do a Google on nursing scholarships and you will find some options. But BSNin05 is right, you need to check with the financial aid dept. at your school. Some hospitals offer tuition reimbursement for employees or have other plans. Call some human resource depts in the local hospitals. If you have to work part-time to qualify it would be worth it. Find out about academic scholarships too. I paid for my first semester but after that I was awarded scholarships due to good grades. You could do the same.

Thanks for the replys. I went and talked to my financial aid advisor today. I am not eligible for even a loan at this time. I do not have a good enough SAP percent at this time. I was not very smart when I first started school. I just quit going to classes and didn't drop them. I was dumb then but now I am focused. Any way she did tell me to take a few semesters without dropping any classes and then I could appeal the decision and more than likely I would be able to get something at that point. She said that if I show that I am determined then I should get something out of it. Thanks again for the information. It means alot when you know someone is in the same boat and can give some advise.
