financial aid - second degree student

Published

I have one class left to take to get into my community college's nursing program. I have a degree in another field, and have been receiving federal loans. However, my CC sent me an email stating that they have started counting my transfer credits toward my maximum allowable credit hours for financial aid. As of now, I am no longer eligible for financial aid. I was planning on taking out loans to get my ADN. I have not reached the maximum amount for federal loans--not even close. Is anybody else in this situation? I may consider private loans or look for scholarships.

I am working to get into the ABSN program at Baylor. Since Baylor is sooooo expensive, I will have to take out personal educational loans to cover most of my education. I used up about half of my allowed Federal Aid loan with my first bachelor's. I have exceeded my 136 (or whatever) hours allowed for satisfactory academic progress; however the rule changes if you are working toward a subsequent degree.

My school sent me a notification about this with my acceptance letter, a fin aid rep told me 180 is the max REGARDLESS. I am a second degree nursing student now in my program and I was told I have a slim chance to appeal but other than that I'm on my own. Its confusing....

I am having the same issues! I have an AA, was working towards a BA and switched majors, so have a ton of credits. I never got financial aid until about 2 years ago and then I got put on suspension after they paid for like 4 classes :/ I think it's crappy if we paid for our classes before hand. They should count the number of credits financial aid actually paid for. I have to file appeals every semester too.
