Financial aid to continue school

Published

Hello all, I am a ADN program student looking for some ideas from all of you.I need supplemental help to continue with the program.I already have subsidized and unsubsidized loans , but it's not enough. I try private loans only to find out that Wellsfargo only loans to american citizens ( I am a green card holder and could apply next year for citizenship) or Citibank if you have a job which I was lay off and can't find one now. I don't have a cosigner either , that is why I need your input guys .I appreciate your help and good luck to all of you.

have you tried speaking to someone in the financial aid office at your school? i would start there as they are the “experts” in the area of financial aid. some schools finance a portion of the student’s tuition debt. i am not sure about your particular school, but it would be worth looking into. have you earned a previous degree? if not, you could qualify for plus loans. the trick is that your parents or someone else will be required to take out the loan on your behalf (co-sign the loan), but the requirements are less stringent.

check out https://www.dl.ed.gov/borrower/borrowerwelcomepage.jsp for all options. have you looked into sallie mae? they are the leader in private loans. have you received any scholarships from school? have you looked into state nursing scholarships or federal funding? this is about all i can think of. i would still make an appointment with the fa counselor to see if he/she has any additional ideas.

good luck!

Yea check if Financial Aid office gave you the maximum loan you can borrow for the year. Ask them. I remember in my freshman year I had to get a private loan because my federal loans werent enough. Then the next year I found out I couldve borrow the maximum amount the year prior. I could've saved a lot of money on interest since private loans have higher interest than federal lans.

So just ask.

Sallie Mae provides loans to permanent residents. Most private loan companies want a working cosignor with decent credit, but I would still apply. That must be an expensive ADN program if your federal loans won't cover it. I've never heard of a community college costing more than 6K a year. That's getting into state college/university prices .

I have to agree with the others, check the Financial Aid office. I remember being (well, still am actually) in your position.

I talked to the people at the Financial Aid office and they told me about a book fee waiver, called a BOG Form. Not sure if your school has one, I forget what BOG stood for. But it could come in handy...at least you wouldn't need to spend your money on books. The bookstore at your school just gives them to you for free :)

Hi guys, thank you all for the responses. The financial aid office is useless, they just tell you is your problem.I waited for two years to get into nursing school until I got tired and went for a private one.All the financial aid given goes to pay for tuition so I need to find a loan to help with living expenses . I was lay off so no job yet, besides with the amount of hours you have to spend studying I don't know how to juggle both and still get good grades , but I do have 2 part times I am looking into .Problem is I am running out of time , semester starts August 24.
