Finally figured out how I study best

With only 44 days until graduation. Haha!

I learned that this is my best way to study. I pay attention in class and jot down things my teachers say on my power point.. I get home and read the chapter topic by topic and write my own notes on the pathology, signs/symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and nursing interventions. Reading the chapter and writing my own words is the best.

Screw making a million notecards every week. I only make note cards for lab values and medical terminology if i don't know it by now.

I've made a 98, and a 94 on my last two tests that I've taken by studying this way.

I hope this may help someone along the line.

That's actually a good idea. Writing your own notes in your own words especially will help a student understand the material better. I just took my Medical Terminology Final last Thursday and I feel I did good because my notes were written myself and I read the chapters along with reviewing my homework and the quizzes. Each student is different and I'd also like to add that during lecture I use the laptop that was given to take notes because I feel that I can focus more on the lecture then just concentrating on jotting everything single thing down. In my general classes this was the case and I would do this and thus leading to missing key information so yes how you approach it is great. Did you learn this with only 44 days until you graduate or a skill that you improved as your Nursing School experience progressed?

During all my pre-reqs, psych, A&P, med term, I never bothered to figure out what was my way of studying. I kind of just winged it. But of course nursing school is a whole new ball game. All year I've been doing note cards, and focusing on all the wrong material. It really did take me this long to find what worked best for me. But I'm bridging for my RN in August so at least I'll know my studying ways for when I start that.

Oh okay. Well now you know what works in terms of studying. So kudos to you.

And a 96 today. So I'm happy with it :)

Hi! I'm only in my second to last semester of the LPN program and have been trying to figure out how I study best ever since it has started. I have used the same techniques in all my pre requisites but none of them are working for me in this class, so I'm struggling a bit. Could you explain what you do in a little more detail? Thanks!

Once you figure out how you study, it's seriously an eye opener!! Now I know why I did terrible in high school lol. I am 18 months from graduating but I have learned I am the opposite of you, lecture does nothing for me. I just go to class for attendance reasons and study my own way during lecture. I can't sit for hour+ at a time and retain information being read off a power point. I need videos, interactive learning , the ability to think out loud, etc. Once I figured that out, I saved myself a lot of time!!
