FINALLY Accepted! U of Ar LPN to BSN Program

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Wanted to make a motivational thread for anyone that has considered giving up on their journey(or has done so). After about 8yrs, I have FINALLY been accepted into a BSN program (University of Ar LPN/LVN to BSN hybrid program)! A brief background: after spending a few (long) years at junior college (SMC) I switched majors from Computer Science to Nursing, thankfully the pre-reqs were similar so the switch wasn't to strenuous; ultimately graduated w/ all my pre-reqs finished back in 2017, but due to life events and not really taking my journey seriously, ended up with C's in all the major sciences (Anatomy, Phys, Micro) ?; worked as a CNA (obtained my cert & license while doing pre reqs) at multiple SNF's and my experiences, though invaluable, also brought a lot of stress; transitioned and became an administrative assistant after only a few months of doing CNA work and stumbled upon an LVN program with a schedule that would allow me the NECESSARY opportunity to work while in school; LVN program was 15 grueling months long and while going to school full-time, I also worked full-time; toward the end of my program I was at jeopardy of getting dropped from the program due to tardies (because of work) and had to literally beg the DON to allow me to stay; granted the opportunity to stay and completed my program, but wasn't able to walk the stage w/ my cohort because of my job not approving the time off ?; after months of studying, passed my NCLEX after getting the full 215 questions and having immense amount of anxiety thinking that I didn't pass; while working as an LVN and being in CA, there were absolutely NO options for me when it came to applying to public schools (both JC's and Universities) since competition is so stiff and admission requirements were completely out of my reach w/ my Science courses (even though I had great grades in my other courses), and I didn't want to go the private-school route yet again and accumulate over $100K in student loan debt (thankfully, the majority of my LVN program costs were covered w/ FASFA, scholarship, grants), so my dreams of attaining that RN license had seemed so out of reach for me and I felt hopeless. After many years of doing my research (constantly checking out programs online what seemed like DAILY), weighing my options, considering switching career paths altogether....I'd finally found a fully accredited and reputable program that gladly accepted me as their new BSN student.

I say ALL of this to say, wherever you are in your journey, whether you're feeling down/hopeless/lost/confused, NEVER give up!! There's more than one route to get to where you want to go, if I haven't learned ANYTHING else, this is definitely true. After years of blood, sweat, tears and prayers....I will be starting my BSN program this Spring '22 as a JUNIOR transfer and I owe it all to perseverance, resilience, and hard work. You got this, and you CAN and WILL get to where you want to be!

Major MAJOR Congrats! I am sooo happy for you!  I found out about this program on Youtube.

I am starting an LVN program next month but I have my eyes set on this program next for the LVN to BSN bridge.

My science course will expire but not the Math or Psychology. I plan on taking my science courses at Portage (Geneva College). I think Uni of Ark accepts Portage…I have 20 months to double check. ?

Congratulations on getting accepted! I have also applied to U of A LPN-BSN and also considering OU LPN-BSN. What state do you plan on getting your clinical hours in? Since we can’t do that in CA.
