Filipino-American thinking of taking up Nursing at Lanting College

Published

I have finished my pre-requisites and everything required in washington for nursing. I am thinking of finishing up my nursing courses in the Philippines at Lanting College.

-Does anyone know if Lanting is an accredited school that the US will accept?

- By getting my BSN in Philippines does anyone know if that would also be seen as an acceptable BSN degree in the US? (This question might sound stupid, I just want to make sure)

-I read that the NCLEX will be having a testing center in Manila now, so would that mean there would be fewer steps for me to take once I finish and go back to washington?

If you have anything to add that would help me with my decision, I would highly appreciate it. Thank you.

There is a testing center in Makati, and it has been there for sometime.

Since you did not mention immigration status in the US, be aware that many states are now requiring the local license before they will permit you to test, and it is only waived in special circumstances, and if you hold dual citizenship, then it is not waived.

You also need to be aware of the fact that it is usually about four months plus if you have graduated out of the country before you will even be given permission to test, as you will be considered a foreign grad. Licensure and immigration are two very distinct items with their own rules and regulations. And the state of Washington also has additional rules in place that will need to be met.

And please take the time to do some reading here as to what is going on with many of the programs in the Philippines at this time.

If you can go to school in the US, you would be better off doing that. And be aware that you are expected to be in school for about five years if you go to the Philippines as they are adding on an extra year now. You can go to school for two years for the ADN and then work while completing the BSN as an RN. But if you go to school in the Philippines, you are looking at five years and no working there if you do not hold dual citizenship.

Not a good idea to even consider at this time.

I just want to ask which is better Arellano University or Dr. Lanting?

The best way to answer your query is if one has been to both schools. All I know is that both schools have low passing rates on the NLE. Arellano university has a 4 yr program which the last year would be spent in a college in the US. They just started last year.

try looking for a much better school. check the passing rate of the school.
