Filing a petition. Need advice.

Published

Hi everyone,

I am hoping to apply to a BSN program at my local CSU this fall, but am currently ineligible. This program does not allow you to retake any of the prerequisite classes, and I failed one of them almost 10 years ago, well before I was ever even considering pursuing nursing.

They do have a general petition that you can file (it's not specific to this type of issue, but just for anything to speak to the department), and I will be doing so shortly. Over the last couple of years my grades have been excellent and I scored a 90+ on the teas.

Other than mentioning my recent grades and teas score, is there anything else I can do to help my chances at getting an exemption from this prereq requirement? I'm seriously stressed because I've put so much into pursuing this dream, but might never even get the chance because of a dumb mistake I made when I was 18. Any good advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

To be honest, they're not likely to overlook this stuff, even with an exemption, when they have 10x the number of applicants they need, and those don't have those repeats.

Any chance you can apply at other CSUs? Their requirements vary, and some are more particular than others about repeated courses.

Go to their nursing office and actually talk to them? That'll help you more then people here, honestly.
