Filing for NCLEX but Recently got Married - Can I use my maiden name?

Published

Hi Guys! I am a graduate in the Philippines and I am now here in the US. I am ready to file for NCLEX but got issues.

1. I recently just got married and All my paper works from the school is on my maiden name. My social security is on my married name though and my state ID is on my married name. Can I just process and move on with my application using my MAIDEN name? What ID will I use during the test taking? Should I use my Philippine Passport?

2. My permanent residence card is still processing at this point and it might take a few months before it gets settled. Has anyone heard of issues about taking the NCLEX while PR card is still on processing?

Thanks to everyone who will reply.:headphone:

I would go with your current legal name. Your maiden name will also go on the application, so your transcripts will still get paired with your application. I know some of mine are in my maiden name as well.

Do you have a CA ID yet? It sounds like you do, but just asking to be sure. If so, you'll likely want to use that for testing, but contact Pearson Vue to get the most accurate answer for this one. Whatever ID you use, you'll want the names to match exactly, so make sure your application matches your current ID.

Also, if your screen name is your real name, I would highly recommend changing it to something more anonymous. There are a lot of reasons to protect your identity on a public website, especially as a nurse! :)

Hi RunBaby,

I was actually gonna change my username to something last night but remembered only today.lol Thanks for that.

I will possibly use my legal married name because I have seen in the application forms that my maiden name was being asked. And a friend of mine had my same case and she was able to file propery using her married name.

Thanks!!!:)

I think I've heard that if your last name changes due to getting married, to bring your marriage certificate. I would call PearsonVue and ask before you do anything. Wouldn't want to be turned away and have to pay again...

Hi catebsn25..I know that'd be disappointing. LOL. Thanks, I'd give them a call.

Hi I think I have the same problem. I just graduated last May 2016 and got married on December the same year, I plan on applying for NCLEX once I get back to NYC but I don't know if I should use my maiden name or married name? All of my valid IDs are still in my maiden name, I don't have any ID with my married name on it yet. Please help!

Hi,

I have my CES under my maiden name, but got married after few months I have been apprived. Now I plan to apply for NCLEx and am also confused if I will continue using my maiden name since I have not taken my green card yet. My passport is also under my maiden name still.

Whatever valid ID you have now used that for your application because that's what you need when you take the test. Since you just got married the BON gonna ask about your marriage license.

If you don't have ID on your married name then used your maiden name for now because once you already got the ID for married then you can always contact the BON for the changed name. Their just gonna ask your marriage license.
