Hi everybody,
Right now im doing my prerequisites for nursing school, and i feel so overwhelmed. I do want to become a nurse, so I can become a Nurse-Midwife, but it seems like I can't do it. There are times that I feel like quitting. I am a horrible test taker, and for nursing its really important. I have been in hospitals, for my job (labor support doula), as an intern, and volunteering. I love it, and I learn a lot when I am there. I had to drop chemistry and Biology (A & P) because the grade was really bad.
I have the GPA so im thinking to transfer to Chamberlain college in Chicago. I know it won't be easy, but I feel that it will help me a lot having practice (like they do), than only lectures.
Thank you so much!

Please do not give up!! You can do it. Just make a study plan for each day. For example, if you have a test in 2 weeks that covers x, y, z, break down the studying into days with how much you need to do. I did that for all of my prereqs and it worked well. I suffer from test anxiety, but i managed to pull all A's in my prereqs and my overall college cumulative GPA is 3.75. If the desire is there, you will find what works best for you. There are many online resources to help explain complex topics. Sometimes, the science textbooks seem intimidating. Once you get through that topic, review different resources to get different learning approaches. The nursing program will be way more rigorous than any of our prereqs. It is important to find a method that works for you prior to nursing school and get really really good at it! Good luck to you! FAITH, FOCUS, FINISH!
It is so hard, i keep trying different ways of studying, and i feel confident but then when i take the test everything falls down and i get a low grade.

Good day:
Have you talked to your professor(s) to see what you could be doing differently? If not, set up an appointment, and take your notebook(s), book, etc. to show how you take notes, how you use the book, etc.
Have you gone to your school's learning / tutoring center for help?
Are you following the outline at https://allnurses.com/pre-nursing-student/how-get-any-846733-page4.html ?
Thank you.

Nobody is born a "good test taker." Have you thought about the reasons you blank out during exams? In my experience talking with other students, one of the things they neglect is doing practice problems and tests. You can study and read all you want, or even create flash cards, but those methods don't prepare you to choose among 4 possible answers under pressure. So if you're not already doing a lot of problem sets after reading a chapter, I would recommend it. Do the problems, and review why you got them wrong AND right (sometimes one gets it right for the wrong reasons). If you want, simulate an exam environment: pick a number of problems to do that's similar to actual exam, time yourself, and do it in a library.
Wishing you luck!

@alejandra19993 i havent been on here in a lil while, but saw today that you had PM me letting me know you were going to Chamberlain Chicago in the fall and might have some questions since i went there myself. I tried to respond to the message but i guess you have to be more active on here than i have been thus far to use that feature. (I got an error that popped up and said that you have to have 15 post or something like that before you can use private message?!) idk... but anyways thought id try to reach out this way instead. First, sorry for late response, like i mentioned havent been on the site in a lil bit. But yes i am more than willing to answer any questions you may have abt the campus specifically or nursing school in general. And i will give you the good the bad the ugly. lol I have no problem sharing what ive learned and esp everything i wish i knew then in the beginning that i know now. Feel free to reach out to me at [email protected]!!!! and on a side note from your above post... dont give up or let it get you too frustrated. ive never been the best test taker or best at memorization & actually hate science in general lol but i made it through with some challenges but nothing that i couldnt handle. PPl have asked me if i hate science what am i doing in nursing... simple... i LOVE ppl, interacting with them, taking care of them, making a difference etc. I am in nursing to be at t he bed side and nurture our patients back to optimal health. Ill leave the chemistry of making new drugs up to the chemist and as long as you learn the basics of how the body works you will be just fine if you have the passion for everything else! :)[h=2][/h]
