feeling discouraged,looking for LPN job

It was my understanding that there is a general nursing shortage of all types of nurses RN and LPN alike. Alot of places seem like they don't want bothered or aren't hiring LPN's at this time. I've read the newspaper, talked to people, and just contacted places just for the heck of it. I've contacted 15 to 20 places so far and only scored one interview. A few places called me looking for nurse aides and home health aides. I've done very well in college as well as LPN school. I just don't want to take any job out of desperation. I've worked as a CNA and I know how many Long term cares are run. Very short staffed, poor pay, low morale, and everyone at each others throats or doing minimal care to the residents. I feel I've worked hard for my license and don't want to blow it on a place that doesn't care. Eventually I'd like to go back to school to advance my skills. Does anyone know of ways to attract reputable employers?

Since you plan to return to school, what about taking one class now? Then...you can honestly say that you are working on your RN.

The only way I know to look good to a good employer (or any employer) is to put the letters RN after your name. The bottom line is that is what the industry wants and is willing to pay for. It seems as if you are in an area with little opportunity for LPNs. When I found myself in similar circumstances, I moved to a different area. Now I am moving to another area again for employment purposes. Like they say, you can't squeeze blood from a turnip. If you don't have a job, then you have to go to where the jobs are; 15 - 20 tries seems like you have hit the market where you're at. Also one time I needed a job so badly that I took a job as a CNA. And CNA jobs can be hard to get! That only works if you are tired of living in the streets or in your car. So consider going to a new area. Hope you find something soon. Good luck.
