feeling discouraged about job hunting...

i just got off the phone with a recruiter in the city i'm moving to and i'm so discouraged right now...

i really want to get into an acute care setting right away and now it's looking like that's not going to happen because they've just finished hiring all the new grads they're planning to right now... the recruiter said that unless something opens up (which she didn't sound hopeful about), i probably won't get anything until the fall... it wouldn't be so bad if it was just 1 hospital in town not hiring new grads, but they're all under one board, so there's no other acute care hospital to apply to...

i really didn't want to go into LTC... and visiting nursing isn't going to be an option because i won't have access to a vehicle... so basically, we're moving to a new city in less than a month and i have no job and no prospects for one either...

i almost feel ready to give up before i've even begun... :o

Is there any possible way you could move to the US? I know here in my area of NC, most of the hospitals are DESPERATE for nurses and you would have your pick of any acute area. Just a thought....

Consider a clinic or physician office. Until something opens up. Just because you start in LTC. Does not mean you must stay there.

You might be surprised how quiclky things "open up" once you get some kind of experience any experience.

I work in a subacute setting in a nursing care center here. Maybe that's an option until an acute setting is available?

Definitely look at a clinic setting. Are there any part time positions available where you wanted so that you could get your foot in the door?...............I know that you spoke with a recruiter, but have you spoken with the hospital directly...............Rule 1, never believe 100% what the recruiter tells you...something always changes, such as if one of those nurses that got a position cannot accept it at the last minute.....................for whatever reason.

I am your boat too. I am in Southern Maine and due to graduate in May and I know that the rest of the country is talking about a shortage but it isn't happening here (yet). However, if you want to be a CNA there are tons of jobs. One of the local hospitals is paying nurses to be CNAs (not sure if it is at the same rate or not).
