In my clinicals, instructors always gave the disclaimer that it's okay if you don't know, but then go find out. You are not expected to know everything, but you are expected to try. You are going to be challenged and you aren't always going to know the answer, but TRY. Ever since then, I realize they are simply trying to get me to think like a nurse. And after 5 semesters, I now know what they are thinking. Still not all the time, but a good amount that I don't feel discouraged. It gets better with time. Take a deep breath.
I also use a pocket guide that tells me about lab values, normals/abnormals and what the indication is - high is this and low is this. It really helps so I can look up this information and have it ready for the next opportunity to share with my instructor or group.
Shake it off, look it up, and move forward. You're learning and pretty soon you will understand. Best of luck! :)

YES!!! Clinical was awkward - I felt more comfortable with patients at work, than with patients at clinical...go figure.

YES, it does. Every clinical day for the first couple of weeks I was a nervous wreck. It gets easier, but frankly, I am in my senior year and I still get a little nervous before I knock on that door for my initial assessment. But when I'm on the floor I work on, I have no fear going in for vital signs, which is crazy. I think once you get your system down, you will feel more comfortable.
