Im a new grad waiting to test in Cincinnati, Ohio. I hope to move bac to my home state NC this summer. I wanted to know the likely hood of a new grad with only a few months experience getting a job at a clinic on Ft.Bragg or at the VA. I know extensive background checks will be done but for those who have these jobs what background or type of experiences do you have. I know I may be denied do to inexperience but what career choices (besides furthering my education) can I make to make myself more attractive to federal employers.

It is a good choice to workfor the Fed. I work for the VA and it is great. Unless you have done clinical at the VA or are a vet, it can be difficult to get hired here. Just keep looking at USAJOBS.gov for openings and apply. Persistence is key. Good luck

Persistence and patience ... it took 2 applications and six months for me to get an interview. Once I was chosen by the manager, I had to (discreetly) haunt the HR office to get the ball rolling and word is that it can take up to 2 months for HR to get their piece done before I get a definite starting date.
To me, it's worth it. I'll get to do palliative/hospice care in the public sector, where I want to be. The trade-off is ... a ferocious bureaucracy, byzantine processes and (probably) less money in return for working for myself (been a taxpayer all my life), a union and never, ever, dealing with a for-profit sweatshop ever again.
Thank You so much for your encouragement. I did clinical at the VA out here in Dayton but only 4 8hour shifts and I cant call a staff member for a referall. Maybe I should volunter at the Cinci VA and maybe I can can get some sort of reference letter.
