fccj online pharm -- tips???

Published

for anyone at fccj that's taken online pharmacology, would you please share your tips as to how to study for this darn thing?

or maybe what you would have done differently to study for this class, e.g. flash cards...?

i feel like this right now --> :uhoh3: :uhoh21:

this is online pharm slapping me with a fish --> :trout:

i'm just so overwhelmed already and i'm not even past chapter 1, haha.

Here are my tips. I didn't take it online though but may help anyway...

*Keep up with you reading!

*Know the drug classifications, i.e. beta blockers, cephalosporins, loop diuretics, etc... Flash cards may be good for these.

*Know digoxin, it comes up a lot.

*Know the difference between cholinergic, anticholinergic, adrenergic, adrenergic antagonists, etc... and what effect they have on the body.

*Try to pick up on the major side effects or drug interactions, i.e. nitrates cause headaches or digoxin & lasix = hypokalemia.

*Also know the antidotes for overdoses, i.e. heparin= protamine sulfate, coumadin=vitamin K, etc...

Good luck!!

If you're going to spend time reading anything, read your Pharm book AFTER you've gone thru the power points. Concepts and Assessment can wait. But stay up on the Pharm reading.

As soon as the Prototype drug lists are posted for the exams, start working on them and putting it together. Most all the questions on the exam come from the prototype drug lists.

hey guys, thanks for your tips!

another pesky question: did you feel the first semester was a little less stressful after the dosage/med term tests???

Less stressful after dosage calc and med term? No not really, its wall to wall tests to the end of the semester with MAYBE 3 Mondays off.

Nope...it gets progressively more busy as the term goes on, in my opinion. Lots of tests, plus group projects, then clinicals start and then like the last 3-4 weeks are pretty crazy...

I do think though that as it goes on you get more comfortable with it all, if that makes sense. You get into the routine and figure out the best way to study...
