family meeting

Published

Hi,

Have a difficult resident who was in AL and went out and came back to NF. She calls her MD and gets new scripts/med delivery etc. and we don't have orders so we are running in circles constantly. We tried to make her and son understand that we have to coordinate between md,resident and nursing staff. She has also told MD we won't let her call him etc..which is untrue. The first week on our unit she made me call MD 3 tiimes. Wanted this and didn't want that (meds). She frequently refuses her meds and totally wants to control the staff. We offer bath she wants shower etc.. She also tells us one thing and MD and famiy another. Her family has contacted head management and wants meeting. The son has not approached me regarding concerns. Said residents family are good benefactors of the facility. Word has it that we are to do what they want regardless of the other 20 residents on the unit. Any advice woud be appreciated. TY

I feel your pain. This is one battle you won't win.Don't even try to fight. The family are dealing with admin above you, that tells what they think of your role. They are benefactors of the facility, you should be their FAVORITE nurse.Admin can try to explain the regs but you all will be chasing your tails for the rest of her life.Call the doc every day....Offer shower or bath, whatever.Let her have some control. The family will never believe she is manipulative or looking it in any way...Just document everything very well.....Try not to take it personally.Entitled VIP's are PITA's but are a fact of life...n
