False positive peth

Nurses Recovery

Published

I am 4 months away from completing my 5 year RNP agreement and am now living a nightmare. I had a peth test Tuesday and received a notification in my Affinity app at 11pm last night that it was positive. There is absolutely, positively no way as I have t drank in almost 5 years. Has anyone had a positive result posted when they were actually negative? I'm assuming this has to be human error. Although I'm not sure who enters the results into affinity. If anyone had had a similar experience please help, I'm trying not to lose it!

Hair test can't be used for alcohol use. Not in my program at least. It's supposedly unreliable.

What does a false positive count as? In my program, a false positive isn't negated by a new test. So only option is to get it re-tested maybe at another lab. We have to pay for that option if we want to do that

Here is what I did when this happened to me while in monitoring years ago and I am NOT giving legal advice. I'm giving monitoring/nurse advice. I went immediately online and ordered my own Peth test and a nail test which you can order yourself. This is done OUTSIDE of your monitoring program and on your own. I got these negative results and gave to my program manager. At the same time, I worked with my program manager to get retested and begin them to do a hair test, nail test, additional Peth through your monitoring program.

Even though a hair test is unreliable for alcohol, your case manager in your monitoring program does not know that You know that, and your attitude/begging/asking for advanced testing and literally volunteering for a nail test, hair test, another Peth puts the idea in your case managers mind that you are NOT and have NOT drank alcohol.

Anytime a nurse in monitoring gets a false positive Peth or urine test for alcohol (Ets/Etg) argue immediately for a hair test and nail test as this kind of puts the idea in your case managers mind that you aren't guilty and that an innocent person or person who has not drank alcohol would NOT be arguing and begging for a nail and hair test. A person who has been drinking would NOT want anymore advanced testing at least in the minds of most case managers. Additionally, DO NOT let TIME go by as your are arguing/discussing with your case manager about getting retested and arguing your case for a hair/nail test. Multi task and go get Your Own hair and nail test and Peth test on the side and there are many online labs where you order your own tests without needing a physicians order. It is expensive but worth it and if your own monitoring program allows you to get more testing through them, then the more the merrier, you now have 2 new negative tests from 2 different labs/sources and this closes the deal.
