Fall 2018 Lone Star Hopefuls

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey everyone, just wanted to start a Fall 2018 page for Lone Star ADN/LVN future students!

Thank you so much. I called them already and I have picked a date. I wish I had registered earlier because the dates are filling up fast. Would you mind sharing how your exam went?

If your asking what I scored, an 83. I honestly think I over studied and that hinder me. The test is very basic. (to me at least) If you study the Hesi Review Book from evolve you should pass but if you want a higher grade I would use online resources in addition to the book.

Ok thanks. I am using the pocket prep app and my A&p notes. I also got the evolve book.

Thank you for your feedback. It appears they have changed their policy. They use the highest grade of any course you retake, not necessarily the first. You also MUST retake/refresh your science courses if they have "expired." The only 3 things that factor into the ADN decision are your combined GPA of A&P I/Engl1301 and then your HESI. These two scores combine for an overall score that is ranked on a spreadsheet. If they get to your score and there is a slot, you're in.

I already have a BS in Business Administration. I can graduate the Lone Star ADN faster than refreshing my pre-reqs and getting into/graduating an accelerated BSN. As a non-traditional student I need to re-enter the workforce as fast as possible.

I took the HESI today. I just received the review guide 2 days ago. I read through the A&P section once and haven't taken A&P since fall 2000/spring 2001. I haven't looked at math or fractions since about that time as well. I passed A&P with a 76% and scraped through math with an 80. Overall I scored 85.6% with an 800 on the Critical Thinking. I'm sure once I actually study math and A&P I will raise it. You can only take it once every 60 days. We are currently about 65 days or so away from the fall application testing deadline. To my knowledge, you must take the HESI through Lone Star and they will not send scores to other schools.

You can take the exam at the Montgomery campus. It is first come, first serve. I took the test there today and I got right in. :)

@rslorificen How'd you do on the exam? Also, do you think there will be an opportunity to test the week of the deadline at Montgomery?

Oh without an appointment? I could do that so I can have time to retake it if I do not get my required scores. Although I have been preparing for a week now I think I should do well at the first trial.

Thanks for sharing! I'm sure you would do better once you study

I did better than I thought I would and it was harder than expected. It took me 5 hours of the 5 1/2. I made sure to slow down and really take my time b/c I didn't want to have to take it again.

My scores were:

Reading Comprehension: 96%

Grammer: 94%

Vocabulary: 96%

Math: 100%

A&P: 96%

Composite score: 96.4%

Critical Thinking: 960

I have to admit that I studied all this last semester while I was taking A&P so I think that helped.

I plan on applying to Montgomery Lonestar but I'm considering Tomball b/c their NCLEX pass rate is a little higher I believe.

Wow those are great scores! What materials did you use to study?

I used Elsevier Hesi Admission Assessment Exam Review 4th ed, McGraw Hill Nursing School Entrance Exams (I didn't like this one as much) and the Pocket Prep App. Whatever I was fuzzy on I searched youtube for more information until I "got it". Mostly just lots and lots of time studying. Lots of sacrificing and less tv and facebook.
