Fall 2011 ADN GTCC/FTCC

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Hey,

I was just wondering if there were any who will be applying for either GTCC or FTCC nursing program. I took and passed my TEAS exam this past friday and i'm sooo happy since it's one hurdle that's been tackled lol but ow i'm torn which one to go to... so i'm applying to both.

I'm honestly leaning towards FTCC since they had a 95% nclex pass rate which is 10% more than GTCC. But this is of course if i get accepted. I have 155 points which i'm hoping is good enough.:nurse:

That is true, introduction will be out the way. How long does forsyth take with their letters? I know GTCC letters go out in April. Oh and do u need your CNA License before applying to FTCC.I have my program completion.I read you dont need it to apply but I wasnt sure how long they give you to get it before the program starts.

Yes you are suppose to have your license/on the nursing registration listing by the start of the first day of class.. at least that is what I was told at the info. session at FTCC at GTCC you just need to have passed the class.

As for letters, I think FTCC sends them out like a week after the deadline.

Now that is a quick reply. Well I guess I should go ahead and prepare for my exam

when are you schedule to take the exam? and what are you using as a study guide?

I'm in my second semester or nursing school at GTCC. But I have coworkers who are in the nursing program at FTCC.

I may be a bit partial to GTCC because I go there but...if you look at the 5 year pass rate for FTCC vs GTCC, GTCC's average is higher than FTCC's.

You should probably also factor in the location of your clinicals. GTCC (Moses Cone Health System and High Point) FTCC (Baptist and Forsyth)

I think it's more difficult to get accepted into FTCC than it is in GTCC. Mainly because of the TEAS test. A lot of people have struggled with either the math or science part of the test. At GTCC, instead of having to score withthin the 40th percentile in each section, you only have to have I think a 76 cumulative score. But if you've passed it already, then you're good to go.

Both schools just implemented a new curriculum last Spring. I'm not sure how things are flowing at FTCC but things have been a bit confusing at GTCC and at times frustrating but I believe that could be said about any nursing program.

Either way, whichever you decide to attend...Good luck!!!

I took the TEAS and i got an 81.3. I did great in all section except Math.. but i got like a 68/69 but all in all i go above 40 in the sections.. but like i said Math almost killed me. Surprisingly I scored an 86 in science... i got 100 in 4 out of the 6 sections.

I hope i get accepted into one of them.. i know GTCC goes on the pt system like FTCC but it seems it's easier to get into FTCC. Maybe because they give points for C i don't know.

Any other insight you can give is truly needed and welcome by me..

Thanks

I'm a current GTCC student what were the automatic scores last semester that got seats without being an alternate.Ive heard from some nursing teachers that the scores were not that high for the last two class prior to Spring 11 admission.

I'm not sure what the lowest and highest rank were. I can't even remember how many points I had but I want to say I had 44 points. I will tell you this... I was a straight admit this go around but my first time in the program I was number 10 on the alternate list and was still accepted. I think that semester which was fall 2009, they offered a seat to the 43rd person on the alternate list. So, even if you are an alternate, there's still hope. Make sure you send in your information to show you're still interested. Also, they don't accept as many students for the spring program as they do for the fall program. You do NOT have to have all of your so called "pre req's" done in order to get into the program. I have people in my class (2nd semester nursing students) who are just now taking A&P 2. I think that if you made mostly A's and B's you have a great shot of getting accepted. Heck, I got a C in both A&P 1 and 2 and I was still accepted...both times I applied. Their ranking process has changed. They're not offering points for things they once offered points for. Most of the points come from A&P. You get 12 points for an A and 8 points for a B. Thankfully, I've taken all the courses required for a BSN which is more than likely why I was accepted. Plus, I had mostly A's and a few B's with the exception of A&P of course.

Good luck :-)

I know I can't wait for next tuesday to come and go lol.... I am tired of the wait it's killing me.

FTCC wastes not time letting you know whether you're accepted or not. I think the orientation is in March so you have to know by then. I wanna say the letters go out 2 weeks after the deadline.

So the cut-off for this Spring at FTCC was 154.9 and there was no one on the alternate list below 150.0. The admissions director said it was b/c they lifted the 5yr expiration date on A&P; but if you look at schools nationwide the applications to nursing are way up. Another point of interest is that most other school are on version 5 of the TEAS, & Forsyth is still using versions 3/4. That means that if you don't get into the Fall 2011 ADN class, the points system will change. Version 5 is different but I have no idea how they will recalculate. I, also, am waiting on that March cut-off to see if I get in this Fall.

Well i've survived one deadline for GTCC... now i'm waiting to see if I got accepted.. but FTCC is my backup so i guess its t-minus 3 weeks. :yeah: Good luck to you.

God luck with the waiting! I'm a first semester student at GTCC & I remember just how agonizing it was to wait. Just think- it will get you ready for the (sometimes) week long wait to get your exam results :uhoh3:
