Help please. Need ideas.
From a logistics standpoint, try some backwards planning. You might even go to a hotel (or other rentable space). The sales department will be glad to give you sales pitch and provide you all the rates and amenities available. When you look at the space, picture your table and all your needed supplies. Need a computer / hard hook-up or wirless Need a TV to loop a video Since it's a fair, how many booths will you need Snacks, flyers, cashbox, etc... Point is, you picture the end result and then work backwards to see if you have covered all your bases. A simple example, but if you plan to set up booths do you have enough power outlets to accommodate everyone? Do you have extension cords for everyone? A lot of this stuff may sound intuitively obvious but until you have actually done a few of these events, you will always find that you are missing something OR think of improvements after you are set up. Also, are you coordinating this event with another close by? Another group to share your facility? I mean, what "sells" your fair and gets people to come out? Maybe you could have the Red Cross bus come out to collect blood or something similar. Know what I mean? Hope this helps.

Is a bsn degree viewed the same as any other college degree if seeking unrelated jobs
I have a question kind of in the same ball park. I have a B.S. in Psy and an M.S. in H.R. They were opportunistic degrees and took about 15 years to complete. I took classes here and there, some inside the military. All were as I had the opportunity & as I could afford them. In short, they have been worthless degrees. Now I am working on an associates in nursing (and really hoping I can find a job afterwards). Question is, will the other degrees help after I graduate OR will I have to get a BSN or MSN to progress later in my new career??? Really tired of starting jobs at $8/hr, working my way into $20/hr, and then having to start all over again (3 such job experiences in past 12 years)

Gay male nurse stereotype?
I don't understand. Why did it make any difference to her that you are gay? And to provide some background; I'm prior military, advanced degree (that turned out to be absolutely useless), and ended up working retail. I am now in nursing school. The point being, I could care less about the sexual orientation of anyone I worked with. My only prejudice is stupid people. Plus, I can't stand to work with anyone lazy. So, with that in mind, what was her big deal??

Fall 2011 ADN GTCC/FTCC
Okay, I had a similar situation. I already have a B.S. in Psy, so you would think that I would not have to take PSY 101 (i.e. Freshman Psych, no matter how you label it). Well...I did. I also had to retake several other classes that were too old. I could have clepped (challenged) some classes, but therein lies the rub. If you clep a course that is on the points list, then you don't receive points for it. So the bottom line is that you will first have to get all your transcripts to Forsyth Tech AND they will have to be evaluated. You also will have to get your High School transcripts. Once they arrive, you can speak to an admissions counselor. Until those previous courses are evaluated though, you are pretty much stuck. You cannot even be admitted to the college until those transcripts arrive. The cut-off to apply to the Spring nursing program is Sep 29th. So to even be able to apply, you are going to have to hurry. http://www.forsythtech.edu/uploads/6e/c8/6ec8165dc47f44ec8ffc15c302c9975f/2012-Nursing-Info-Dates-thru-December.pdf Once your transcripts are evaluated, see what you still need to take. http://www.forsythtech.edu/uploads/d1/31/d1310dfcc1f16854d0be83d858a5b995/2012-ADN-packet.pdf I think what is really going to stop you at this point is that you also have to have your transcripts in before you can take the TEAS test (look at the Assoc Degree Nursing link above). At this point you most likely will not have time to sit for test before the Spring ADN applications are due. Your best bet is to probably get everything together and apply for next Fall; cut-off is Mar 1st. BUT, there is a down-side to that also. The classes that count for points must be completed before the ADN application is submitted. So even if you are taking the required Anatomy course in the Spring, those points still will not count towards your ranking. (Again, see the link above for a detailed explanation.) Finally, there is one more thing I would suggest. If you have been out of school for some time, I would take a biology refresher before attempting Anatomy or Physiology. I received very high marks in Bio and Chem 20 years ago. I fell flat on my face when I tried to jump right back into Physiology. I took BIO 094 at Forsyth before I attempted Anatomy again, and both classes were very easy to handle.

Fall 2011 ADN GTCC/FTCC
So the cut-off for this Spring at FTCC was 154.9 and there was no one on the alternate list below 150.0. The admissions director said it was b/c they lifted the 5yr expiration date on A&P; but if you look at schools nationwide the applications to nursing are way up. Another point of interest is that most other school are on version 5 of the TEAS, & Forsyth is still using versions 3/4. That means that if you don't get into the Fall 2011 ADN class, the points system will change. Version 5 is different but I have no idea how they will recalculate. I, also, am waiting on that March cut-off to see if I get in this Fall.
