I am considering the following plans for my education and life: 1) Attend a four year university and get a degree in business or communications (or possibly IT). Then, go to an accelerated nursing program after university to get my RN. 2) Get a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing degree at a university. If I decide I don't want to be a nurse and want a job in an unrelated field and no one will hire me, get maybe an associates in business, IT, or HR, or maybe get a master's? A bit more about me: I have gone to community college for 4 years (since high school/running start ap program for first year and half). I have an associate's degree so far and am 3 classes away from completing all of my nursing prerequisites. I have won several awards including Outstanding Student, am a member of All USA Academic Team, and have volunteered 900 hours with AmeriCorps. So, I do feel like I need to go to college and get some degree while I have my big scholarship standing as a member of All USA Academic Team. I'm 24, so getting kind of old and feel like time is running out, so just want to hurry up and get college over with. I have been going for nursing bcs it is a safe job in a bad economy, and was thinking of being a nurse esthetician (for medical spa or plastic surgeon). However, I don't like hospital or nursing home nursing that much, but could maybe stand medical spa nursing, although no one will let me job shadow so I don't know for sure. A degree in business interests me, but it is the most common degree in U.S. and would make it difficult for me to get a job after graduation, because of all the competition. The same goes for a degree in human resources. An IT degree is another safe one that I am only slightly interested in. My jobs so far have been in cosmetics, fragrance, sales, as a coordinator of a program, in an office, and generally talking to people/working with people and some working with paperwork/data entry and planning. It's really hard for me to figure out what to get my degree in, I just want a degree that will get me a job after graduation!

I am considering getting a bachelor's of science in nursing degree and have completed the prereqs. I don't really like hospital or nursing home nursing. I am wondering, if I did decide to do a career change and apply for a business or human resources job job that is completely unrelated to healthcare and only requires a four year degree, would a specific degree like a BSN be viewed the same or worse (since it is so specific to one industry) as any other college degree, or will it set you apart for applying to other business or unrelated jobs, since it is a hard degree to obtain?

It looks like all nursing schools are really competitive to get into. Are there any nursing schools that are not as competitive, will take a student with Bs or Cs in the prerequisite classes, and/or do not have a 2 year waitlist? Any nursing schools for undergrads that are only online, or that are easy?

I am average or below average at math and science. I recently stopped completing my nursing prerequisite courses because I did not do well in anatomy and physiology. I have to try really, really hard and work really hard at math and science. How hard is nursing school for a student that is not gifted at math and science?

It looks like most direct patient care jobs require lifting of over 50 lbs. This could entail lifting a 300 lb. patient by oneself. What healthcare jobs involving direct patient care (or indirect care) do not require heavy lifting? Are there any accommodations provided to assist with heavy lifting for the healthcare jobs that do require the lifting?

I am considering getting a bachelor's in nursing. However, I am only interested in the cosmetic side of nursing, which would be in medical spas or plastic surgery clinics. I have heard that there is a demand for nurse estheticians, but there is no data on the bls.gov website or anywhere. I am wondering how hard it is to find a job as a nurse esthetician, and what the job demand is for a nurses in medical spas and plastic surgery clinics. Also, is it easy to find work as a nurse esthetician as a new graduate?
