Ever notice how there is always favorites where you work. How those favorites never get into trouble for stuff you know you would surely get canned for.Its not fair and I know it will probably never change but it is sooooo aggravating

I think the correct technical term for people like that is 'brown nose'. And really, the fact is that most managers can't stand a 'brown-nose' (slang= 'suck-up', BTW), but they let they play their games so they stay away from them. And 'brown-nose' nurses (who are usually spnd more time stirring up muck than doing their jobs), eventually always get their just desserts.

This phenomenon was identified a looonnnngggg time ago by Social & IO Psychologists (halo effect & horn effect) - it is certainly not limited to nursing or even to work situations. Basically, if you have a 'high opinion' of someone, they have to really mess up bad before it affects your opinion of them. Conversely, if you have a low opinion of someone.... they can do remarkable, wonderful, extraordinarily fantastic things -- and you will generally attribute it to sheer luck or accident rather than change your existing (bad) opinion of them.

Basic management training courses include this information as part of the content on eliminating bias & performance management Performance Appraisal Biases .
