Failed at 75 questions

Published

I took the test July 28th and I had to wait until Tuesday to find out the results. My computer shut off at 75. I was begging for more questions, but as we all know, when it shuts off, it's over. After I left the testing room, the guy that was at the reception asked me how I did and I said my computer shut off at 75 questions. He said I prolly did good coz the first 75 questions are the most difficult. I really did not believe him coz I just found the exam extremely hard. My family felt that I passed, since my computer shut off at the minimum number of questions. I felt otherwise. Now it's been hours since I found out from the Quick Results, and I can't sleep. I'm really bothered. I really do not want to go through those two months of studying again; I do not know where to get the energy and determination from anymore. I feel so helpless and depressed, like I can't move on. I don't even know how to tell my friends about it since I know they'll be inquiring about the results soon. I feel so numb. I wanna take it again ASAP. I was wondering, can I use the same ATT to reschedule for another test? I feel so bummed right now. :-( Now I'm even starting to question why I took Nursing to begin with. This is just awful... :-(

Take kaplan the class if you can and also get the Qbank so you can take their questions and also review the meds on line. If need info other on other books that were helpfull to me e-mail or l reply on the post board!

Good Luck! and Don't get discourage!

I am trying really hard to just stick to Suzannes plan (100 q's a day) but there are times I just do about 50. As I stated before, I only have the Kaplan trainer CD w/ the 7 tests on it and to me, the way the questions are asked are VERY SIMILAR to NCLEX. It uses words like immediate, initially, priority, etc. As far as Suzannes plan goes, Im sticking to it as my main study tool. I know folks who have passed NCLEX w/out Kaplan as well. After I do my 50-100 questions, I go to Kaplan trainer CD and try to figure out WHAT IS BEING ASKED on the questions (thats all I use it for).We are soo much in the same boat cuz I am still not over failing but honey I have 2 move on. This site gives me motivation, encouragement, and reassurance that people here understand my struggle and are not judgmental. I am giving u this motivation cause I am in your shoes now and its hard but everyday gets better. As just like someone else wrote here, no one really cares how many times you take this once u are a RN. And I can assure you, no one will even ask you. Nursing school is OVER and thats the biggest hurdle. We made it thru, others are still trying to get in. Thru all our feeling sorry for ourselves, we made it thru nursing school and every time I think about that I thank the lord. If you think the Kaplan CD trainer will help you I can send it to u if u like just so u can see what I mean when I tell you the way the questions are asked is similar to NCLEX. I hope that u r trying to stay motivated as I am. I know we can get thru this if we try.

quote=summerbummer21;2330931]I most probably will take the Kaplan course when I've decided to take the boards again. Did you all take the complete online review course? I've read that Kaplan is the best, and I sure hope so because the Drexel one proved to be unhelpful. How much time did y'all spend on reviewing the Kaplan course? Has it been worth it for most of you? Because I read it is the most similar to the NCLEX one. And what are the chances of me passing the second time around with Kaplan? Coz I'm scared that the chances of passing NCLEX are slimming down as the weeks go by...

Hi Summerbummer.

My name is Angie and I am a Staff Nurse in England. I am currently atttempting to emmigrate to California and I failed the NCLEX a few weeks ago with 75 questions. I really know exactly how you feel! But I beg you, please do not give up!! There are not enough caring people to do nursing now (believe me I know - my ward is always short staffed!) I have come to the conclusion that if you fail the NCLEX, it is just another test of your determination and desire to be a nurse! I felt the same as you when I found out I failed especially since I work full time here and have been qualified two years - felt awful, depressed and didnt know where to turn since I had crammed so much - what else was there to revise??? But now I have picked myself up, reapplied and ordered more books (Kaplans 2007 question strategy book).

Please please please, you must keep going! I have to tell you that in my lifetime I have never once passed an exam first time - this includes applying to start nurse training, driving exams, my final qualifying exam here and anything else you could think of so I am quite used to failing and having to go on....you must have determination!

Once you pass, you will face some pretty difficult situations and you must be able to handle them - you cant give up on your patients. I work on emergency surgery so my patients really depend on us nurses to handle things for them! This is just another test for you! When you qualify, it is the greatest feeling in the world and if you love nursing as much as I do, you will know that your life has changed for good as soon as you get that registration! Dont give up on your dream!

Good luck, we will get through this together!!!

Love Angie. :nono: :caduceus:

I am very interested in checking out the Kaplan CD trainer, as most people said they have benefitted a great deal from it. I hope that will really help me be successful the second time around. Did you have to pay like $400-$500 for it, including the Q-bank and 30 class hours? I know you can pass the next time you take the NCLEX; I'm rooting for you. You can make it. I'm keeping you in my prayers.

Thank you so much for your words of hope and encouragement. It means a lot to me knowing that I'm not alone in this struggle. :-) Yep, I guess I have to be really thankful that I was able to make it through nursing school, and was not forced to drop out and start all over again. I think that would've been more devastating. Thanks for your motivating words; I hope that I can move on quickly and start studying, because right now, everything's still a blur and I can't get over the fact that I failed and I have to study all over again. :-(

Thanks a lot! Because of this forum, I realized that I'm not facing this most difficult situation alone. Thank you so much because you and the others who have replied to my post continue to motivate and encourage me everyday, and that is more than enough for me to know that I have to give it another shot, because if not, nursing school will prove to be pointless and I just don't want that to happen. All the effort and struggle and perseverance I have put through will just amount to nothing if I do not try again. Also, getting up at an ungodly hour for clinicals and pulling those all-nighters to study for exams will just be meaningless, and that's a shame because those were huuuuge sacrifices for me. Haha! (I'm so not a morning person and I tend to doze off during pre-conferences haha!) I can't bring my family down by not trying, but I think it will take a while for me to accept this, as seeing I cannot accept the bitter reality yet and still refuses to study all over again. But hopefully, sooner, I'll find the strength to move on, thanks to every single one of you guys. I heart you all! :lol2:

Has anyone ever heard of the Drexel online review course? Was it beneficial to those of you who took it?

What NCLEX books/CDs/notes/questionnaires did you all review from? That way at least I'll have an idea on what's the best nursing review materials are out there.

Thanks for the support guys!!! :D :D

I only have the Kaplan trainer CD (w/ the 7 tests on it). It has 1,000 questions on it. The more critical thinking questions are on test 5,6,7. I dont have the q-bank. Youll have to purchase that one from the Kaplan site. As Ive stated b4, Im only using the trainer for strategies in HOW to answer the question. If you know the CONTENT you can answer any question as Suzanne states. Id rather know the content. Friends of mine who took the entire Kaplan course (some say it helped and some say it didnt) and tell me to stick to Saunders 3rd edition. I also saw questions on my NCLEX that were r/t herbs which is definitely on Suzannes study plan. Im sticking to it this time. It was sooo hard cuz there are so many books to study from and so many giving advice. People have sworn by her plan. As a matter of fact, the school I grad from recommends Saunders and always have. I refuse to spend any more money. I also have that Prioritization, Delegation and Assignment Book." Its gonna be hard for you to go back to studying but Im taking the advice of the many who passed w/ Suzanne. If u really want the CD, you can have it. You can also use the Kaplan 2007 book (youd have to buy that one). It will have another disk w/ more questions in the back of it, prob bout 300 questions. Its up to you. First, you have to accept that u did not succeed on the 1st test and get back to studying. I know people who failed the 1st time as well, then passed on the 2nd,Im determined to make it. No matter how many times I fail. Its disappointing as hell but we cant just sit back and let these days pass w/out studying something. Believe you can and you will.

I would do all of the trainer questions on Kaplan. At the end of the test I would go over the questions, specially the ones you got it wrong! What I did was for every question that I got it wrong I wrote the question on a notecard, and the possible answer or anything that I thought it would be important. It takes a long time, but it paid off.

I cannot say to you that I did 100 questions everyday, but certainly studied everyday. Sometimes I would do 15-20 questions 4-5 times a day and go over them. In between I would go over the things I got wrong on the test, either reading the saunders knowledge content or Kaplan online review. Take lots of breaks and don't kill yourself in the process like I did. To control my stress level, I went to a massage therapist, (once in a while) in a day spa. If you can't he also taught me to take deep breath for ten minutes when I felt stressed or overwhelmed. I wish I had done that a lot earlier during time I studied.
