Hello everyone, I'm new to this group and I need some help in regards to studying to pass the PNCB primary care PNP exam. I've taken it twice now and I failed both times, I'm very frustrated and disappointed at the same time. I've done all I can in terms of studying but I don't know what else to do. Please help if you can. Thank you

Hello,

Can someone please share resources and tips on how to study and pass this exam?

Thanks.

C

Hi just seeing how all of you did when you retook the exam, and what you all did the second time. I failed mine last month so looking for what to do differently this time.

Hey, how did you prepare the first time?

I started out by using the Silbert-Flagg and NAPNAP question bank. But then I got access to the Berkeley book at home. I stopped studying the first 2 and focused on Berkeley (at the advise of friends who did that and passed recently). I didn’t think it was helpful. I did very well on 2 Berkeley DRT’s and the 2 PNCB practice tests. I thought the actual exam went in to more detail than Berkeley prepared me for. I’ll probably go back to Silbert-Flagg and NAPNAP unless anyone has better ideas ?‍♂️

I would definitely read the entire Silbert-Flagg book and do the practice questions. That what everyone else seem to have done and passed the 2nd time around. Please keep us posted!! Happy Studying.

I failed the first time and then went to the NAPNAP review course which definitely put me over the top. Most of the presenters at the review course were excellent. Not sure whether they will be able to hold them now with social distancing in effect.

I wanted to give you guys an update... I retook the PC exam on Aug 12 and passed! I failed the first time last August by 20 points. The second time around this is what I found to be helpful:

I purchased the

Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certification Review Guide: Primary Care 7th Edition

and studied the topics in each chapter. I did the questions at the end of each chapter...BE AWARE that there are some mistakes in the review book so reference your main textbook, refer to the current guidelines, and refer to the CDC website. I referenced the Burns textbook as well as the other sites to confirm any doubts. since that’s the one my program used.
I also purchased a one month supply of Practice bank questions through Board Vitals.

I found a suggestion in another forum to view these videos...

use the 2020 versions if available - if not, use the latest version available: Watch chapters 1,2,3,4,5 antibiotics, adolescent medicine, hematology - anemias especially - and as you need.

Finally, this last video is also good for dermatology, especially

If you’re a auditory learner and need simple explanations about some of the conditions Osmosis videos are a great resource. I found so many helpful videos through them and they have videos on Youtube.

Don’t be afraid to search Pinterest for visuals. Also mnemonics are a wonderful tool for memory recall.

Lastly, check this site out for great info sheets on the different disorders.
The website is called Peds Cases...

Good luck to you all who haven’t passed yet! Happy studying!

Hey,

Hang in there you will definitely pass. I took the Fitzgerald Review and used the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certification Review Guide 7th edition. Read the book and take notes. Do practice questions. Keep pushing, I hope this helps you.
