Failed NCLEX PN Twice

Published

I graduated in December 2010 and took my nclex in March and again in May. I took the entire 205 questions both times and according the CPR they send I am at near passing standard for all categories. I am so confused because I am not sure what to begin studying plus now I have no motivation. I tried the Hurst Review online and it was a great content tool however I find myself deciding betweens two correct answers and I seem to always pick the wrong one.

Any suggestions on what I could be doing wrong or what can help me pass my test I would really appreciate.

I didn't personally use it, but I heard the LaCharity book on priority (and delegation) is highly recommended for students. That may help you in figuring out what answer is a bit better than the other answer. I always hate choosing between two answers and picking the wrong one! On the bright side, you are so close each time, I think with just a little tweaking you'll get this on your next try. Best wishes!!!!

Thank you I have heard about this book and will give it a try. I have also downloaded a couple of study guides that I got from All Nurses. I hope it helps so ready to be a nurse and get rid of my sit for 8 hrs a day pushing paper job.

When you go to take your NCLEX again and you are sitting infront of the computer, I would take a deep breath, hold it, and relase it slowly. Just to help get the stress out of your system. Don't over think the questions nor should you look way in depth into a question. If you find yourself saying what if, stop right there.

I had two books to study for my NCLEX, Exam Cram by Pearson, and Saunders. I found that the Pearson book gave me some good tips for when you take your exam and I'm going to quickly type out a few things from them.

1) Look for the same or similar wording in the question and the answers ( a lot of times your answer may be one of those)

2) Watch for grammatical inconsistencies (the correct answer should complete the question in a grammatically correct manner)

3) Don't read into questions ( reading into the question can create errors in judgment. If the question asks forr an immediate response or prioritization of action, choose the answer that is critical to the life and safety of the client. Think about the ABC's (Airway, Breathing, Circulation)

4) Make an educated guess (if unsure after carefully reading the question and all the answers, choose C or the answer with the most information)

5) Avoid answers that include keywords such as always, never, all, every, only, must, no, except, and none.

When it came to the Saunders book that my school issued us...well I kinda tossed the book aside. It stressed me out looking at all the information that was in it. BUT that disc that came with that book, I loved. I would sit there and do anywhere between 200 to 300 questions a day on the study mode so that I could see if I got the question correct or not right there and it would give me a rational. I felt that was key for me to pass my NCLEX. I did so many questions that when I sat down to take my test I tired to imation myself at home on my couch studying to take away some of the stress.

I hope that this helps you.

Thank you Glenna I actually do have the Exam cram book and i just last week realized that is has a cd with practice questions and all this time I thought it was just the electronic book. I know that I am so close to passing and have to admit feeling anxiety just thinking about that exam. I will definately start practicing questions.

Id say do the Saunders Review book and disk plus make note cards it really helped me! Dont be discouraged and dont give up!
