Failed IV attempt

I had an opportunity at work to start an IV and failed after 3 tries. My confidence has been shot down. I was able to get a blood return, so I must have punctured through the back wall. I am not sure what I can do to improve my chances next time. I was not comfortable using the spring loaded needles. Bummer!

Take it from someone who tends to be hard on themselves. Give yourself grace! And keep practicing and every opportunity you can. Best of luck.

In my program, in our Med Surg I class, we all have a day out of normal clinicals where we go to one day surgery and start IVs. I was allowed to start 3. I missed every single one. Everyone else in my clinical group got at least two. I was so down on myself for about a week. And then I realized that you know what? You can't be perfect at everything the first time you try and sometimes things just take practice.
