Failed a&p twice...

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello, I just found out that I technically failed my A&P1 class twice and I feel extremely terrible about it but I really don't want to give up. Did I just ruin my chances for nursing school? I had a high gpa... but it is slowly going down. Last semester I had to withdraw because I was going through a lot at home on top of working overnights and taking to many credits. My boyfriend lost his job, my car was repoed, and I went through an extreme financial difficulty so I had to withdraw. This semester things started to slowly improve but I was extremely still stressed out and constantly tired do to my overnight job so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it but anyways. Now I'm stumped on what to do next. Since I got a W and an F will any schools even consider me because of that two grades.. I can't imagine myself doing anything else and up until now I worked REALLY hard for my gpa so I would hate to see it all go to waste...

Also, I tend to get anxiety during the quizzes and exams and I have a real hard time retaining the information sometimes... can anyone offer any advice on what tricks worked for you to remember everything thanks.....

Honestly, failing A&P twice is extremely detrimental to your chances of being a candidate for a nursing program. Since it is a key class and plays a huge role in all the classes you will take in the nursing program, if you have been unsuccessful in passing the class twice, it might be time for you to reconsider. I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but that is how most schools will view your application. I would ask some of the nursing programs that you are applying to if they would accept your A&P credit if you passed the 3rd time, but I know a lot of programs would not.

As for being successful in A&P, I watched videos on YouTube. Khan Academy was extremely helpful and simplified a lot of the bodily processes.

I honestly cannot answer your first two questions. At my college, we are only allowed to repeat a pre req twice, but other colleges may differ. See if you can find one that will allow you to retake the course a third time.

As far as studying goes: I went to class every single time. I did not miss even one lecture. I took handwritten notes...for some reason I retain the information better when I hand write things instead of typing them out the first time. Then either a few hours later that night or early the next day, I type out my notes while the lecture is still fresh in my mind. I typed them onto a website called "Evernote," and the notes synced with my phone (which was wonderful, because as long as I had my phone, I had my notes with me everywhere I went). I also made online flash cards on quizlet, which also synced to my phone; I would try to make the questions harder than my teacher's tests were so that I knew the information backwards and forwards. This was time consuming, but I knew the information so well and got an A on every test.

I have a friend who struggles with testing anxiety. I do not struggle with it myself, but I really do feel for you. She's so smart, but tests are a nightmare for her. Good luck to you.
