expired Texas Nurse License

Published

Hi Everyone,

I have a situation that will be needing your advice:) a very short background info below for your analysis;

I am from the Philippines applied for a US tourist visa, upon arrival, I converted to student to study nursing, I then completed my associate degree in nursing in texas and got my license on 2008, was able to work for almost a yr in a hospital and fortunately was petitioned by my employer. But since there was a visa retrogression happening.. I decided to go back to the Philippines to wait for my Priority date to be current (which is by the way will be current next month).

Unfortunately due to my negligence I was not able to renew my license (now expired for 4yrs now)since I arrived (2009) in the Phil and on top of that I was not able to practice my nursing skills in that same span of time. I checked BON for the renewal requirements and as far as my understanding is concerned, they need me to complete 20 contact hours..? or in other words part of my refresher course must be supervised by a Texas RN?? which is not possible for me since I'm currently in the Phil.

Is there a work around, ex. a texas BON accredited nursing/clinical facility in the Philippines where I can complete those hours (if applicable)?

Is it possible to apply for a tourist visa (with a pending eb3 application) and complete the short course in texas without having to apply for a student visa?

or..?

Please refer to below links, I may have overlooked or misinterpret the provisions (which hopefully would not require contact hours? or online completion of the requirements will already suffice..?

please help po, just let me know if you need more info with my case;

salamat po,

inactiveNurse

I would think you could come here on a Tourist Visa and complete refresher course.

Looks fairly easy, I am surprised you can still get a license after 4 years expired, they must be in need of RN's in Texas

This place does a one week refresher course classroom and the rest is online, and you can also do your clinical.

They are in either Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio each month

Thank you for your input, yes I think all inactive nurses (but nclex passers) are given the chance to re-enter the profession. Actually my problem now is since the refresher course will involve a lab work onsite, and me being in the Philippines with a pending green card, would find it difficult to get a tourist visa. :( any work around? can I get a visa screen with an nclex pass document only.. and without or an inactive state license ??

I only know about Tourist Visas and Fiance Visa's into USA. If you can get or got a Tourist Visa then it means you are doing pretty well in the Philippines. If I were you I would get to USA and do your refresher course/with clinical. Or check with BON in Texas and see if you can use your recent work in Philippines working like at a barangay care clinic as nursing experience. One must see what the Texas BON wants and figure a way to satisfy them.
