Expired CNA training hours Redo?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

So I can't find an answer on the web and I was hoping one of you guys would know. I successfully completed the well beyond the needed hours/training needed to get my CNA license in 2008. I never applied for the license.

having a CNA license would be VERY useful right now.

Are my hours/training expired now? What can I do to reactivate them? Do I have to do everything over? (I'm in California). Thank you!

hmmm 2008 is 4 years, and it seems certifications last around 2 years. And since you did not take the states test and you have not been working I am thinking you might have to take the course over again.

I found this which talked about recertification, might help you understand your situation.

valid for a period of two years and if you have worked for at least 150 hours in that period, you can apply for recertification in the same place you received your certificate. Your date expires two years from the last date of your birthday. Make sure you allow for at least 2 weeks for processing. Some states may require you to take a short test and if you have not worked for the stipulated period, you may have to take a refresher course and pass an exam.

Hope I helped and good luck.

I was afraid of that. Do you know where I should call to find out? (what governing body/institution/at what level)

Thanks.

Specializes in Anesthesia.

The best place to go would be the institution that you got your CNA from. Otherwise talk to your State Department of Health since that is where certifications are posted. Good luck!
