  1. Spanish? really? ugh. I speak a good amount of Spanish, but it's my second language and I really struggle with it when I'm nervous. So they ask interview questions or just do a mock clinical setting for questions? (The latter would be much easier for me.)
  2. okay people, good news! I called for something entirely different, but the person from admissions who answered the phone told me that Early Decision letters were being sent out today and tomorrow!! Good luck to everyone!! :)
  3. I am pretty certain she said that "financially" we are undergrads.
  4. got an interview! Jan 25th. hey kdiem. I was at the UPenn event today too! I wonder if I met you in person...
  5. Hi mz_marit, I hope you don't mind but I checked out a few of your other posts and it seems like we share a great deal in common! I've applied to UPenn's program with a Women's Health specialty. My background is in social justice (esp. women's reproductive rights) and I plan to work with women in underserved communities. I'm in California and my friends over at Planned Parenthood tell me that the NP scope of practice laws (regarding women's health care and abortions) are being challenged as we speak. Many upcoming changes! Anyway, I'm going flying out for an interview at UPenn on Dec 10th. I hope you are one of the current students that is there for the lunch mixer! If not, I'd love to keep in touch with you via allnurses. :)
  6. Someone on here asked about last names and notifications. My last name starts with an A, and I received an email invite yesterday morning. So it's possible... Good luck! I'll be flying out for the interview. I'm in Southern California. I figured it would be good to see the campus.
  7. Dec 15th. good to know! Thank you! so I figured I might as well pick your brains while we are all waiting: That was QUITE the essay. It was challenging to get the essay to "flow" while keeping the questions in order. I wasn't sure whether the sub-prompts from question one were meant to be kept in order. I kept them in order because I figured it was better to have the essay a bit choppy than to risk not following instructions. What did you guys do? 1. Discuss the development of your interest in graduate education in nursing, specifically: Why are you choosing to pursue a career as a nursing professional in your chosen specialty area, such as acute care nurse practitioner, midwifery, pediatric nurse practitioner, nursing management/leadership, etc? Why have you chosen this career rather than an advanced degree in another health field? How does your background and previous experience related to this decision? Describe observations or work experiences you have had with professionals in this area and how those experiences have influenced your decision to apply to YSN. How does your background relate to this decision?
  8. Hi Everyone. I've applied to CUSON's 2013 ETP program with a specialty in Women's Health. Anyone else?
  9. Is anyone else here applying for a joint MSN/MPH degree? I'm a bit unclear as to what the applicant pool looks like. I'm not sure if I stand a chance or not. Unlike the SoN, Bloomberg School of Public Health wanted GRE scores. I wonder what other criteria they look at.
  10. does anyone know the stats on the last applicants (2012)? TEAS scores, GPA, experience, ect.? Thank you (I applied for Oakland 2013)
  11. bardone, I was wondering the same thing. I just heard back from UPenn (I believe I saw you in that forum too) and it made me wonder about UCSF. I was at the American Public Health Association annual conference in SF in the end of October. I spoke to someone from the UCSF nursing faculty and all she said was "in the next month or so." So not much info there...
  12. Anyone else applying to Advanced Practice Public Health Nursing for the 2013 cycle? Anyone interested in the Global Health minor?
  13. @myelin: Thank you so much for posting all that information. It was very helpful. I am applying to the UCSF MEPN for 2013 (Advanced Practice Public Health Nursing). I working on my goal statement and I'm struggling to figure out what they mean by "your understanding of the nursing profession". I'm not sure if they want me to just demonstrate that I understand the different roles of a nurse or maybe that I am up to date on the current trends in nursing and health care policy. Clearly, you did something right on yours. I would really appreciate any input. I tried to PM you, but I guess I need 15 posts first. oh well. :)
  14. I was afraid of that. Do you know where I should call to find out? (what governing body/institution/at what level) Thanks.
  15. So I can't find an answer on the web and I was hoping one of you guys would know. I successfully completed the well beyond the needed hours/training needed to get my CNA license in 2008. I never applied for the license. having a CNA license would be VERY useful right now. Are my hours/training expired now? What can I do to reactivate them? Do I have to do everything over? (I'm in California). Thank you!
