Experienced RN Moving to Brooklyn

U.S.A. New York

Specializes in Med/Surg Urology.

So as fate would have it, my spouse matched for a medical residency in New York. So, like the Clampets, we are packing up and moving. The hospital has given us housing, for which I'm grateful, but I am still going to need to find a job could use some advice.

What if anything does anyone know about the VA in Brooklyn? I've been checking their website and it never seems to have any openings. Is there an agency that supplies them with per diem nurses? Only reason I ask is because its close to where we will live.

Otherwise, whats it like for the commute to NYC. I was looking at jobs at NYU and Mount Sinai. Any staffers with advice?

I'm a BSN with 3 years of solid med/surg surg/onc experience. I'm coming from a magnet hospital and really enjoy the culture. Regular per diem work would be great considering I don't need benefits but am open to anything.

Also, I've always been interested in the ED. Would this be a good time to try that out?

Thanks

Hey from bk to nyu in the trainis 20 min or so ! To ms its like 35-40 becuase u gotta walk few blocks! You will get used to nyc subway! I would take either nyu or ms if you get an offer!

Specializes in ER, PACU.

Why not Maimonides, Methodist or Lutheran in Brooklyn? Mt Sinai or NYU are nowhere near a 20 minute commute more like an hour and I hope you like walking on the darks streets and riding the subway alone at 530 am with homeless people because that's what you will be found if you take a day shift job in manhattan. If your spouse is at the VA, I'm pretty sure there isn't even a train over there is there?
