Experience ~ Charleston/MUSC

I will be applying to CRNA schools this fall, and would really like to get into the program in Charleston, SC. The program requires 2 years of experience, I will only have a little over a year when I start the program....does anyone know how necessary the 2 year requirement is? (Or if by any chance they would accept me and let me complete the two years with a sure acceptance?)

if you take the time to read the other posts, you will find that my post actually is relevant. i believe the question was whether or not the same qualifying admissions requirements remain in effect, ie. the 2 years of critical care experience. my post was purely objective in stating that, although the requirement is still listed on the website and all of the admission information, it is not followed. this may actually help some potential applicants.

a) the students that have expressed their incontent have issues with the fact that some of the classes were dropped completely from the curriculum, not the fact that a few professors have changed.

b) your class was never mentioned in the post was it?

c)"yes, it is a good idea to talk to students before you apply but you should also validate and analyze the credibility of the information you receive before you post it on the internet."

ok, how much more credible and valid can information be if it comes as a first person source? listen, it sounds like you feel as though you need to defend your program and i am not sure why. unless you have some issues yourself with it. i think it is a great program and know several crnas that rec'd their degree there. this is a forum where questions are asked and answers are posted. subjective and objective.

actually everything in your post regarding the admissions process is completely irrelevant due to the new administration revamping the process. furthermore, it was irresponsible of you to post on the internet that people are unhappy with the new administration for these reasons:

a. of course there will be some unhappy students in the class that started with one group of professors and had them all suddenly replaced. i for one know first hand that most of them are happy but will admit that the transition was stressfull to them.

b. the new students, including myself have been to class for 3 days, none of which included lectures or tests by the new director (that starts next week)so any unhappy comments from my class would be completely unfounded.

if you think that what happened over the past few years pre-administration change is relevant then i am at a loss of words and can't help you there. bottom line is until the new admin interviews and selects their own students we have nothing to go on. a call or email to them is the only way to get valid info.

i feel the need to defend my program because it's my program and i felt like you were giving it unfair negative publicity when in fact the quality of education has and will continue to improve dramatically with the new admin. you stated people were not happy "with the administration change" not with a change a change in curriculum, which to my knowledge hasn't happened.

Thank you both for your responses. I have sent an e-mail to the director but have not heard back from him yet...I will most likely just take my chances and apply. Please keep me posted if you hear of anything else.

howdy all my charleston neighbors!! i live in the West Ashley part of Charleston,SC. my fiancee is in the pharmacy program at MUSC. if ya'll need any information i could get him to pick it up at where he goes to school and mail it to anyone who might need it. anyone else from charleston here?

I don't really understand the whole pre-administration bit????

But anyway, there was no negative publicity...just providing information to an interested party seeking answers about ANYONE"S experience with a program, not just those in favor of it. That's what a threaded BB is for. This isn't a CRNA program advertising site!

Hello. I am in the process of applying to MUSC's Program now. What are your thoughts on your first semester? What was your interview process like? What type of questions were you asked? I would appreciate any help you could offer!

Sorry but I do not know and I just started the program 2 days ago. There is a TOTALLY new administration from before. Apparently they will be changing the website sometime soon so maybe any new requirements will go up then. The new director is the former director from Newman university in Kansas as of this past July. You might want to check those entrance requirements. Then again, one would have to assume that they won't change the entrance requirements in the middle of the application process and any changes would go into effect after this Nov 30th.
