what to expect in my cna skills test here in NY

Published

Hi i will be taking my cna exam this saturday and i am really nervous. i did not do any class here in NY since i am a nursing graduate in my country and i am eligible to take the cna test. i am only reviewing trough you tube for the skills and doing practice test online and the book that i bought. i pretty good with the written test but i am so anxious about the clinical test. i downloaded a clinical checklist in prometric and only been reviewing the folling skills. i just wanna make sure that if this are the only skills that will be on the test or are there more skills that i need to inlclude. i hope someone can tell me ASAP because i only have 3 more days left before my exams starts.thank u so much.your reply will be much appreciated.

and also before i start the clinical test, are they going to orient me inside the room, how to make the bed low and high, where the hampers, etc, and also about the equipment for the skills will the tester be the one preparing the equipments or i am the one who will be gathering them..thanks.

Just stick with the check list from Prometrics. That has all the skills that will be on the test. They test you on 3. They tell you which ones when you get there. Take your time when you're being tested. Make sure you did all the steps before you say you're finished with the skill. If you realize you forgot something BEFORE you say you're finished with the skill, you can say you forgot to do something and they will give you credit for it...

how much is the starting salary of cna's in ny?

It depends on the nursing home. I started at 14.80. It's a state run facility. I'm not sure what other places start you at. Also, I work on Long Island, upstate I think you probably make less. I also heard some hospitals start you at more than 14.80 on Long Island.

i passed my CNA test..im so happy...$14.80 is not bad for a starting salary..

Congratulations!!!! That's great. And, no, that's not a bad starting salary... I hope you find a place you love...:yeah:

congrats =) what were your skills may I ask? Also, did they gather the materials for you? what was the skills exam like? i have no idea... please let me know, thanks

hi..i did dental care(brushing the teeth),pulse and respiration and Range of motion(upper extremities). The skills was really easy as long you know the 21 of them. the examiner will give your 3 skills to perform, and one is handwashing, they wont tell you anymore to do.The materials you have to get them. the examiner had as look around and see where the materials are located so we will know where to get them.
