I am an ADN RN with 5 years of acute care experience on a Neuro unit. I am looking to possibly move to Tacoma area in a few months. I was just wondering if I am going to have a difficult time finding a job? ANyone know what the average wage is? I have tried to go to the union website like everyone says but I can't find the info anywhere. Thanks!

Tacoma wages are a bit lower than King County, according to our union. It is difficult to say if you will have trouble finding a job or not. Just apply to everything in the Tacoma area. Most of those hospitals are Franciscan, excluding Mary Bridge (kids) and Tacoma General.

My sister lives in that area and had NO problem finding a job. She transferred there from Indiana and currently changed positions and is working in a GI clinic. She got hired over the phone (that was four years ago) when she lived in Indiana, and had no experience at that time. She tells me there are plenty of opportunities. Good luck!
Things have changed in 4 years though. Gone are the day of getting any job in a matter days. I started getting bad about that time and I interview new grads and other people with experience practically begging. I hope for the OP it is a win/win situation!!
I hope it turns out great. We are also considering the Bay area of California. I am looking into both places at this time. Just concerned about finding a job with my ADN only. I make $33 an hour right now in Ohio and I was told that the Washington area isn't that high. I don't want to leave here and then go out there with a higher cost of living to make less money.

What will be helpful is that you have 5 years of hospital experience: that may indeed open doors. On the other hand, not having your BSN will be a drawback. According to the official sources I looked at through go2worksource, it turns out that the job market for RNs in Pierce County has gotten worse recently. R.N.s used to be on the "in demand" list, and now are on the "balanced" list. (Same thing happened in Thurston County). However, if you have problems getting hired in this county, it's encouraging that next door in King County R.N.s are still on the "in demand" list.
