  1. It will come. I was in the same boat. Try role playing at home with a loved one. Make a check-off list before you go into a patient's room of all the things you need. Rely on experienced nurses: they will help you. You made it through nursing school, you passed your boards, and you are NOT stupid.
  2. Nurses are overworked, under paid, and terribly stressed, but it doesn't give someone the right to act like that. If you have issues with a coworker then take it in the office...otherwise, suck it up. I've been guilty of being rude at one time or another, I'm sure. Every nurse probably has...doesn't make it right, though. Maybe a little reminder to the management staff would help that nurse receive coping mechanisms that are appropriate. Who knows?
  3. My sister lives in that area and had NO problem finding a job. She transferred there from Indiana and currently changed positions and is working in a GI clinic. She got hired over the phone (that was four years ago) when she lived in Indiana, and had no experience at that time. She tells me there are plenty of opportunities. Good luck!

    I went through a period in my career like this. I had to take the time to write everything down and make sure that I crossed all my t's and dotted all my i's. I have found that sometimes if you have friction with other employees they are more apt to point out all the mistakes you make, even little ones. That being said, it was an eye opener to me that I needed to be cognizant of EVERYTHING I was doing. I stopped cutting corners, trying to save time, and followed every rule exactly as the organization had laid out for me.
  5. I don't think 0.02 or 0.04 is a big deal as long as there is not a noticeable change in the PR interval or QRS or QT during your shift. Always make sure to measure that QT (a lot of nurses don't) to make sure the medications you're giving don't elongate or change it in any way. Best of luck!!
  6. My hospital is also starting an incentive to have our nurses BSN prepared by 2020. I'm not sure the details of who will be "grandfathered" in, but I see more and more BSN nurses being hired and less ASN nurses being hired. I currently hold an ASN. I've been a nurse for eight years. I'm currently enrolled for my BSN. I heard of similar situations happening at area hospitals where staff were fired for no real apparent reason. Most were ASN. I'm wondering if they were trying to weed those out or get rid of "problem" nurses. Thanks for the post.

    Thanks! I'm also a nurse and thought this was the correct answer, however, I was doing homework and thought there might be another answer that was correct. Thank you for your input!

    Who is liable when HIPAA is breached? I've been looking everywhere and cannot seem to find the answer to it. I know if an individual knowingly breached HIPAA they can incur a fine, but I'm not sure what happens when there is an unknown breach of HIPAA, such as someone leaving their screen up and walking away.
  9. It is never too late. I was 20 when I graduated with my ASN and am enrolled now to obtain my BSN. I'm 30 with two kids, mortgage, full time RN...the works. It's totally doable.
