Hi guys. I have a question. I am well aware of the ongoing tension between Excelsior College and the California Board of Nursing. I am also aware of the deadline the BON provided for grandfathering EC grads. My question is this. Are there any CA RN's out there that received their initial licensure through EC after the deadline and then continued their education (ie. BSN or APN) and still had difficulties aquiring licensure even after receiving additional education?

Now it is not necessary to state the obvious that I should call the BON. I dont have the interest in making a dozen phone calls to a dozen people before actually talking to someone who has the authority to render an opinion. I am really just interested if any one has an experience similiar to this and their interactions with the CA BON. Thanks

I've sent a dozen emails and called several times since January...I was wondering the samething....Posted several threads asking on the distance education and no luck finding anybody....keep bumping the thread...

It will not make a difference, they go by where you did your initial training and if that is thru Excelsior, then you will not meet their requirements as an RN for licensure. They are very strict on this requirement.

If you already have completed an RN program and then are just going thru Excelsior for the BSN, then there is no issue. But if wishing to use it for initial training, then there is where your problem is and have not seen one person get their license since the restrictions were placed by the BRN.

All states base base licensure on the original program/school in which you completed your basic education (the education that made you eligible for NCLEX). BSN completion programs (and graduate programs) have very little to do with basic nursing skills and knowledge, which are what licensure is concerned with. In any state, if you got your original, basic RN education through (for example) EC, you will be an EC graduate forever (for licensure purposes) and no further education you complete later on will change that.
