I have a question for those who went to Excelsior. I know that in a traditional program you get kicked out of school for failing 2 nursing classes. My BF just got kicked out of an ADN program and he thinks that Excelsior won't kick you out. Is this true??? if not what are the reasons that you can be withdrawn from the program??? He thinks that Exelsior is an easy way out. I told him no but he would not listen to me. I know because i am in a BSN program.

There is a limit on the number of times you can test on any of the written exams before getting kicked out.

The CPNE may be taken 3 times. If not passed on the third try, you are permanently excused from the program.

If he thinks it's such an easy way out, then let him enroll and give it a try.

But he needs to have passed with a "C" or better the entire first year of his ADN program before EC will acept him.

It could turn out to be either a great opportunity or a very expensive lesson in life.

Well he is allready an LVN but he was on an ADN program. He failed the clinical and the class. He failed one class once and this is the second time. So he is out of the program. So how many times can you take the test befor getting kicked out???

Which test?

The CPNE is a max of 3 times. The written exams I'm not sure.

Also, look into your state board requirements and be sure that EC grads can be licensed in your state before venturing the EC way.

Also, really put some thought into whether or not you could possibly end up living in a state like CA that no longer licenses EC grads enrolled after Dec. 2003.

As Suzanne ALWAYS says, you never know where life may take you down the road and you don't want to end up not being able to be licensed as an RN in a future state/country that you may someday want to call home or even do temp. contract work.

I do not know a lot about excelsior, but I do know that any of the on line programs require a person to be extremely motivated-organized-able to find clinical sites on their own. It doesn't seem like an easy way out- it actually seems much more difficult- doing all your stuff on line and then trying to find a place that will let you do clinical rotations. If he was not doing well with the support of an in-class program, I think he might have a lot of trouble in a program that relys a lot on self- motivation.
