Excelsior

Anyone have any experience with Excelsior? They ran an ad in the RN Association of BC's magazine. I called there and it sounded too good to be true! Can anyone share any experiences with me? Do you know anyone who has done their ADN with them?

I graduated from Excelsior years ago, back when it was still called Regents College. It is an excellent program, but challenging, and requiring someone who enjoys working on their own. I recommend it highly. It's not for everyone, but it is a fine program, and did a very good job for me.

Did mine through Excelsior...WONDERFUL program ... a LOT of hard studying required... takes real dedication/commitment and self discipline. If you're the type that prefers to study on your own, and are disciplined enough to do this, by all means go for it !

It was my only choice as I work full time and the nearest college an hour away... I get up at 0300 for work, so NO WAY could I have done this (attend regular college) after working all day !

Check with your Licensing agency in BC. See if they recognize and accept Excelsior. If they do you will need to find out exactly what the licensing agency requires. Such as anatomy/ physiology, etc. They may have some specific requirement that Execlsior does not have like nutrition or something. You need to know so that you can be sure you take the applicable course or exam to meet their requirement.

It is widely accepted here in the states. Excelsior has been around since 1973. It is not too good to be true and very real. It is a TOUGH way to go. It probably seems on the surface too good to be true and there fore easy to some folks.

It is infact a very demanding and exacting program. Well worth it though. It is HARD because you must have very good self disapline and be able to seek out your own learning experiences.

I am currently working on my BSN through them. It is great because I deside when I will test. I deside when I will do any of it. I do not have to work my life around a school schedule. Instead I work my Excelsior schedule around my life.

It is fully accredited by the national league for nursing.

I also did my ASN through Excelsior (then Regents). I was a fairly new grad (1 year) LVN who already had an AA degree in another field. While working full time, it took me six months to graduate and become eligible to sit for boards.

It's not easy, but it was a godsend to someone who really needed to work and absolutely hated the nursing school in the area. :)

I was lucky-just needed to take the nursing tests and the clinical, as I had everything else due to the previous AA. So I took the tests three at a time, did my clinical, done. I was much more highly motivated 14 years ago!! :)

Excelsior college...I completed this program in roughly 9 months. I had to take all the written exams and the clinical. It was a chalange, but in the end was worth it. I believe the thing that helped me the most was that I had a strong LPN background, and was DETERMINED to get my RN. It can be done, with determination and self motivation:)
